We spent the next two drives just driving, stopping off to find motels in Sioux Falls and then Madison. Then on the Thursday we had the short drive into Chicago to do, this should have been short anyway- 2 hours according to the map! Ofcourse the map didnt take into account how bad the traffic would be, in the end it took us about 4 to get into the city centre. We'd had no real issues finding motels anywhere so far so we decided not to book anywhere here but struggled to find any in the city (apart from expensive looking hotels) so we headed to the visitor info to get some advise and hopefully another coupon book. Only problem with our plan was the lack of parking near the visitor info so we ended ... read more

Listening to: Frightened Rabbit’s “The Midnight Organ Fight” & Bukka White's "Sky Songs" Just listened: Mixtape from Malorie Reading: My Ishmael by Daniel Quinn Just read: Rant by Chuck Palahniuk Feeling: Grateful for this opportunity, homesick for Boise. I’ve been lazy about updating since the initial novel diligence of opening a travel blog. Sitting in a twenty-four hour café, wide awake with very unreliable internet and no poems floating around in my head, ready to be transcribed, I am reflecting on the trip so far and think it’s only fair to put up the thoughts appropriate to share for the public to read. If my memory serves me, the last time I updated was in Nevada outside or Reno. Since then I’ve seen, in the way of cities, Salt Lake, Denver, St. Louis and Chicago. *Salt ... read more

Check out the pics!... read more

Aaah, Chicago - what a fabulous city! We managed to land smack bang in the middle of the most gianormous 4-day outdoor Blues Festival in the world. Even better for our backpacking budgets .... it's FREE! (Free's real cheap). Playing the finale on Sunday night was the master of blues himself: B.B. King. (Pity we flew north at lunch time the very same day). Chicago has an awesome vibe. We couldn't put our fingers on why, but it possibly had something to do with the multitude of bars, clubs, festivals, beaches, shopping strips and tropical-strength sun. It's a cultural mecca, bursting with architectural masterpieces (by Frank Lloyd Wright, Frank Gehry & Mies Van der Rohe to name a few). We were staying in the rather upmarket suburb of Lincoln Park, even witnessing a movie being made ... read more

Hey everybody just about to leave on my 2 month journey backpacking through Asia. These past couple of days have been really hectic, Ive been packing like crazy and doing everything to get ready for this trip. I have done a ton of research on the places where im going, and what im starting to realize more and more is that I cant really prepare for this trip. There is just way too much to learn. This trip is not to Miami, or any single city for that matter. Im visiting 3 different COUNTRIES, all with their own languages and way of doing things. I cant work out all the details like where im staying and which place Im going to next, so i wont. Im just gunna wing it. This will be my first trip ... read more

We arrived in the windy city on Saturday night. We had to book a hotel outside the city centre because Chicago is so expensive. Over £300 a night so something not much better than Blackpool in the main bit! Although it was out of town, it was still only 25 minutes on the train so it wasn't too bad. When we got up to the room it was all worth the extra daily travel. See the pics for the reason why! We're glad we've been but it was by far the most disappointing city we've been to in America. The atmosphere was good but apart from the Sears tower, which is still the 3rd tallest building in the world (tallest with the mast), it was just like any other big city. We managed to go to ... read more

Sunday 25th May - Tuesday 27th May We arrived in Chicago about Midnight and took the train into town. It was quite late but were able to find a station near our motel and take our cab. This was good as it only cost $10 to get from the Airport to the motel. We were staying in the Ohio House Motel it’s a dated building but is close to town (the wireless is crap though.) The coffee shop is good value and on the premises. We explored the City on Monday. It was the Memorial day so there was lots of people around. Firstly we went to the John Hancock Building which is shorter then the sears tower but is still around 100 stories high. The security is less then the Sears Tower and is good ... read more
