Aloha! To be truthful, I think the travelling is catching up with me a bit - I am so tired! But today was to fabulous not to share. We got up this morning and my Dad fixed a great breakfast of french toast - yummy! It was fun having breakfast with everyone and catching up since I hadn't seen my family since before I left for China. After breakfast, we went to punchbowl cemetary and also Peal Harbor. Punchbowl was so awesome. My Grandpa told us about where he had been in the Pacific during the war, and other people that were there to view the memorial were even listening intently to what he had to say. It seemed to be very emotional for him, but I was amazed at how clear his memory was of ... read more

Well another day is gone. Mark, Barb and Karen just left to go get Karen something to eat as she didnt get food on the plane. We had another great day. Had a nice breakfast here. This afternoon we took the bus and went back downtown to the Ilolani Palace. It was open and worth the extra trip. It was not only beautiful but so interesting too. Tomarrow we will go to Punchbowl and Pearl Harbor. I think it will be something Bob will really enjoy, sharing his experiences of WW2 with Mark and Karen. Of course, Barb and I will enjoy it too. I am really tired tonight so so long for now. Will try to write more tomarrow. Oh, we had such a nice rain this morning and it was cloudy most of the ... read more

Hi All, Due to us being a bit on the pink side we decided to stay out of the sun yesterday. Our prayers were answered because although it was warm it was overcast and we even had some rain which lasted for a couple of hours or so. As it was a rest day we took it easy and did a little shopping, booked some tours and watched a film. Yay the sun is back!! :O) Today we went to the Kualoa Ranch approx 45 min drive from Waikiki which on the way there took us past quite a few places where parts of movies had been shot, such as Karate Kid 2, Drew Barrymore's home from 50 first dates including the dock and Lost to name but a few. At the ranch we signed up ... read more

Here we are starting our second day in beautiful Hawaii. Have been sitting on the patio having coffee. It is so nice. Yesterday we started off driving downtown to the palace. Finally found a place to park, walked a ways only to find the palace was closed on Mondays! We did go into the courthouse and it is very pretty and interesting. Left there and went to the Dole Pineapple Plantation. Had lunch and looked around then drove around the North Shore. It is so pretty. Stopped at Waimea beach and took pictures. Stopped at a little roadside stand and got some delicious papaya for Mark and me! Barb fried some great chicken and we had a great dinner looking out on Wikiki! By the way, as we were driving along the North Shore we were ... read more

Hi all, Well we finally arrived after what seemed like a never ending flight, the highlight of what they called in flight entertainment was a happy go lucky film called PS I love you, which I have to say made me want to open the hatch door.........lol Got off the plane to be hit with 76 degress at 11pm so was very nice especially as i didn't pack anything with sleeves. Driving was entertaining, it took about 15 min.s to work out how to use the satnav...lol we had been up nearly 30 hours so i think we can be forgiven that. Sunday we just rested, checked out the local area and sunbathed for about 2-3 hours on Wakiki Beach, about 86 degrees today. Water is very warm :O) Hotel is nice and we have views ... read more

After a nightmare overnight flight. (The turbulances were the worst ever!!) Were we glad to finally land in sunny Hawaii. Having picked up our hire car, we made the 30 minute journey to our hotel. A suite at "The Imperial Hawaiian Resort" a little bit of luxury for a change...... But luxury comes at a cost in Waikiki. Only valet parking at this hotel at a cost of $20 a night!!! And you should have seen the valets faces when we pulled up in our "Little Blue Bus". They were more used to parking the limo's etc... It wasn't till we checked out the area that we discovered that nobody really needs to hire a car to get around!!! There are plenty of tours that will take you to the different places of interest for a ... read more

Finally a hot and sunny beach! After a few hiccups with our flights from LA we finally made it to Hawaii. Hawaii is made up of several different islands, our first stop was (obviously) Waikiki on Oahu. After checking in to our hotel we went straight to the world famous Waikiki beach. It was pretty much as you would expect it to be - very kitch and touristy! The front was lined with resort hotels and nearly every spot on the sand was taken by sun worshippers! Having said that the water was crystal clear and the sun was shining so none of that mattered. The next morning Steve took his first surfing lesson, and after only 2 attempts got straight up on the board and managed to ride it out from then on. He said ... read more
