Hawaii Arrived in the tropical Paradise of Hawaii, from Fiji, I know it's a hard life! Was strange as I had Sunday twice - We got told to put our watches back 22hrs when we arrived from Fiji, next time I'll make sure I get two Saturdays, and not two Sundays!
I stayed just one block away from
Waikiki beach in Honolulu, and spenty most of my 6 days here sunbathing and body boarding on the famous Hawaii surf.
Went on a day trip to Pearl Harbour which like Honolulu is on the Island of Oahu. This was where the Japanese made a surprise arial attack on the US navy, and brought the US promptly into WWII (couple of years late though!!) for those who are bad at history.
For those who don't know, what is known as Hawaii is made up of about 6 Islands, with most people staying on Oahu. Hawaii is actually the biggest of the 6 Islands, and is called "The Big Island" so as not to confuse, it also has one of the biggest live volcano's in the world!!
Spent a day out on the North Shore of Oahu where
the main surf beaches are, and where all the top surfers go to catch waves and enter competitions, whilst we were there, there was a youth competitions but the waves apparently were no where near as big as they are in the winter months. North shore of Oahu is also home to a number of giant turtles. We were fortunate anouth to come across one which was taking a nap on the beach.
Los Angeles Whilst in LA, I stayed in Hollywood, though it was not has as glamourous it sounds. Hollywood has its fair share of tramps and beggars and doesn't look the safest place at night.
Stayed right next to Hollywood Boulevard, where the stars names are all in the floor and by the Chinese Theatre where the footprints and handprints of the stars are set in concrete and time.
I climbed up the Hollywood hiils to get a picture next to the famous signs, but you can no longer go right to the sign, as many failed actors decided that jumping off the sign was a good way to commit suicide when there careers never made it!
On one night out,
went out with a group in a hired Limo, and lived the dream, driving around Beverly Hills as if we were famous 😊. Stayed in LA for three days, but as it was so spread out didn't attempt to even see what Downtown, and didn't make it to the famous Malibu or Long Beach or Disney World Florida.
San Diego & Mexico Made the 3hr coach trip south to San Diego, which i found was a very pleasant city. I stayed in the Gaslamp districk of San Diego, though not right by the beach, was still a very pleasant area with good bars and restaurants all around. Watched the film Anchor man which was filmed in San Diego and worked the guns while I was here.
The beaches were really nice, and true Californian beaches, I went to Ocean, Mission and Pacific beach. Also went to the Island of Coronado where Edward VIII met Mrs Simpson in Hotel del Coranado there, and where Some
Like it Hot was filmed.
Spent a great day at San Diego's must popular tourist attraction Sea World, which too my surprise I found really good fun and had a really
enjoyable day. Performance included jumping Dolphin's, Killer Whales and talking Seal's as well as Sharks, polar bears and walruses and a 3D film that had water splashing and wind blowing in your face.
I was originally planning to spend a couple of days over the border of mexico in the town of
Tijuana but started to hear horror stories about dodgy coppers and muggers! Because of that I just went on a day trip to Mexico (the border was only a 45 minute Tram ride away). The place is like a scene out of Dusk to Dawn and I am glad I was with a group. We got given Tequilla by the bottle load and all get very merry, especially when we sampled the 95%!p(MISSING)roof Moonshine drink 😞 We even have an escort from one of the Mexican's in the pub incase the police stopped to "search/rob" us.
Also went onto a US aircraft carrier that saw action during WWII which was now a floating museum. There were ex pilots who were up on top telling stories, and even got the chance to sit in the cockpit of an old fighter plane. Spent a very relaxing week
Sea World - San Diego
What a way to travel, Killer Whale..... in San Diego before deciding to go go onto Nevada Desert, and Las vegas...
