Peach State Country Western Dance Festival - March 2009
Although it was in my neck of the woods, I blog this event because many traveled to it, coming from as far away as 7 hour flights.

I have begun competing in the UCWDC circuit for this year and am working to qualify for Worlds in Line Dancing. (United Country Western Dance Confederation) Bill Robinson's Peach State Country Western Dance Festival is one of the qualifying events which happen all over the world. (Line Dancing is big in Europe and Japan even!) It’s more than just line dancing though. Included dances are: Two Step, West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, ChaCha, Waltz, Polka, Triple Two, and Night Club Two Step. All this took place at the Ravinia across from Perimeter mall in the Sandy Springs area.

This being my first event competing in UCWDC line dance, I am proud to say I did great! I placed as Overall Champion for Female Open Newcomer Line Dance. I also competed in the more informal Jack and Jill contests (where you dance with a randomly assigned partner - whom you are paired with just moments before the competition begins) and took 2nd place in Novice Jack and Jill Two Step!

like this aren’t just about competition.. that’s usually a byproduct. Instead, we’re all there to see friends, take workshops, and party from Thursday until Sunday! At night, there were three different rooms you could dance away in - whether it be West Coast Swing, Line Dance, or just a general mix of couple’s dances. Top instructors were there teaching lessons.. from Guyton Mundy’s hip hop styled line dances to Robert and Nicola Royston’s West Coast Swing.

I always look forward to these types of weekends. I leave exhausted, but it’s such a blast with my friends!
