We started out from Mexico Beach on what was supposed to be a short hop with sightseeing along the way. It didn’t quite turn out that way. From the campground in Mexico Beach we meandered along Route 98 through Port St. Joe, to Apalachicola. Apalach, as the natives call it, is a quaint town with very old Florida homes—wide and deep porches, many one story only, and the two story homes adorned with Victorian lattice work around the eaves and porches. It looks like a nice place to sit and “porch” with the neighbors. From Apalachicola we crossed the bay and headed to Eastport and on towards the town of Carrabelle, where we had camped the previous year.
