Here and settled I left Lake City and 6 hours later finally got to Peace River Campground in Wauchula. It was supposed to be a 4 hr trip but like always there were stops to make and this time a traffic jam at a flea market.. I can’t believe the way flea markets here are so incredibly popular. The markets are HUGE and traffic is backed up miles in all directions. It took 20 min to just make it past the entrance and then I thought I was home free, not to be. There was a traffic light about 5 miles up the road and it took an hour to get through it. This was a two lane road through the woods, straight and flat so to have this amount of traffic was totally unexpected. I ... read more

Travels with Snowbirds Monday January 21 Thousand Trails Wauchula FL The One About Entering The Sewer Lottery I seemed to have fallen into a routine I hate. I wake up at 5:30 am having to go to the bathroom so bad I don't think I will make it 8 feet to the toilet. By the time I am done, having clearly set an indoor record, I know I need to locate the TV remote hidden in the blankets. I am now very wide awake. I look for something very boring on TV, like jewelry TV (would you believe JTV is available on the air antenna??) I need the boredom and the noise to fall back to sleep. I fall back to sleep after a fashion, and Winston wakes me up between 7:30 and 8. I feel ... read more

Travels with Snowbirds Sunday January 20, Tampa to Thousand Trails Peace River, Wauchula, FL I own a new RV. Well, almost own. I have a $500 deposit on a new RV. I thought perhaps it would keep me up last night thinking/worrying about it, but I slept reasonably well until 5:15. I seem to have fallen into an ugly pattern, awake early, then passing out around 4:00 pm for 30-45 minutes. That is not good. I will work on that this week. An easy unhook, as the only land line I had out was electric. We were parked on reasonably nice grass and my mat wasn't dirty. Ginnie went back to the Camping World store at the Rally. I stayed home and vacuumed and straightened cupboards. We were on the road at noon, heading for Thousand ... read more

Thursday February 16, 2012 Thousand Trails Wauchula, FL I haven’t said this in a long time, if ever to date on this trip. I slept with the windows open last night! It was warm! Ginnie got a phone call early from the Vet. George was fine and he would call back when he had the results of his blood test. He told her not to worry (yeah, right). I went to the rec hall and finally was able to post a few days blog and make some reservations at SC state parks for my last week on the road. If all goes well, Tim, Gret, Lilly & Ben will join me at Huntington Beach SP for my last weekend, and I am very excited. It’s a great campground on the beach and the kids will have ... read more

Blog 02-18 A Tribute to George I must have been anticipating my trip today because I woke up at 5:30 and decided it was time to get the coffee going and have a shower. All that was accomplished by 8 am. You know how some days just go like a dream and others it seems like nothing works? Today was a struggle. On my walk with Oscar I went to Ginny’s and the vet had called her to say that George was worse and he took an x-ray and there was a large tumor. There was no choice but to end his suffering. I said good-bys to Ginny and Kat, they left to go to the vets. Most of my stuff was stowed by then, just had to unhook. The sewer line gave me fits. I ... read more

The weather was very warm so I was restless off and on all night. I finally got up at 7 had great coffee, read my book of awakening and showered by 8:30. While walking Oscar I stopped at Ginny’s and while I was there she got the morning report from the Dr about George. He is holding his own but no increase in red blood cells. This is the 4th or 5th Dr he has been to and they are all stumped. They have lots of ideas but nothing shows up on the tests. He is still in the hospital as I am writing this, hopefully there will be some good news tomorrow. One good thing, he did smile for the Dr. You haven’t lived til you see a Doberman grin at you and not mean ... read more

The days go by so quickly, I can’t remember what I did. Update on George. The transfusion helped but he is still in the hospital, 3rd day now. The DR doesn’t know what is causing his internal bleeding. So again we wait. I took Oscar on a long nature walk this morning before it got too hot. (sorry you northerners) . It was about 1 ½ miles through the jungle / woods. There were signs along the way as to what we were seeing, trees, snakes and plants. There was a beautiful snake on the path that Oscar missed completely which was good. It was light brown with 2 black strips from head to tail, about 2 ½ ft long. I asked somebody and they said it was a garter snake. This is wild country so ... read more

Sunday February 12 Ocala Sun RV Resort to Thousand Trails Wauchula. Who among my readers has ever heard of Wauchula, FL? Anyone? Not me, that’s for sure, until I joined Thousand Trails. On Saturday night the entire LOW group gave Kay $2. She went to the store and bought 23 Powerball tickets. $320 million top prize, how could we not buy some tickets? I didn’t sleep well Saturday night, so the TV was on all night and I heard that one person from RI won. Poo Poo. (As I write this on Tuesday they still have not come forward.) I joined the group for our last breakfast and said goodbye to my old and new friends. It was a fun campout, and I wish I could join the Gulf Lows later this month for their campout ... read more

I slept like a log again last night. I keep mentioning it because I haven’t slept well since I broke my collar bone in Nov. The collar bone feels almost normal now, so it must be almost completely healed. No kayaking yet though. After walking Oscar briefly, I went to the office where they have wi-fi service. I wanted to get there before the crowd and slow service. I had so many e-mails it took me 2 hrs to go through them and then I posted my blog from the 13th and 14th. When I was leaving the office I found out that my friend Ginny was having trouble with George again and was going to the vet again, 2nd time in 2 days. So Kat went with her and I am staying to take care ... read more

Blog Feb 12th I set the alarm last night but didn’t need it. I slept like a log for the first time in and woke up at 6 am feeling really refreshed and ready for the day. I had a shower and a leisurely coffee while reading my book of awakening. Breakfast was scheduled for 8:30 so after walking the dog I headed for the club house. There was a continental breakfast and lot of talking. We all have name tags and if you forge I set the alarm last night but didn’t need it. I slept like a log for the first time in months t to wear it you are given a hug and charged a quarter. So I paid my money from the day before and got another hug, so it was worth ... read more
