"So, first we had a very long drive to get to our campsite. We went with the Schroeders. Trinity and I where laughing all the way there. when we got there we meet our camping neighbors and we even got to sit by their fire. The next day we went to the pioneer restaurant. It was very good food. Then we went to find shark teeth. We had to get a shovel and this thing that takes the dirt that we scoop with the shovel away on the river. There was a bunch of rocks and shark teeth. The water was very cold but not deep where we went. And also, you can get shark teeth with just digging with your hands right near the shore. The shark teeth had a very weird looking gum and ... read more

The One About Eating Too Much and Pee Our last lazy day in Wauchula, tomorrow we all break camp and separate for a while. Ginnie and house guest Joanne are off to Thousand Trails Orlando, Kathy and her sister DeeDee are off to Fort Desoto Park, on a spit of land at the tip of the Tampa/St Petersburg peninsula, and me off to see cousin Valerie in Palm Harbor. I look forward to catching up with her every year, and hope we can connect with my grammar and HS classmate Maureen Kelly. I have visions of lots of good seafood, Greek pastries, steak, etc., etc., etc. Yesterday we signed up to join the Thousand Trails caravan to the Lipizzaner Stallion winter home, which meant meeting at the Rec Hall at 8:30 for a 30 minute ride ... read more

Groundhog Day Phil predicted an early spring, I’m really lucky, I’ve got summer now. Temps in the 70’s. We were up bright and early today to attend the practice session of the Lipizzaner Stallions. I went last year so it made me eager to see them again. We drove 45 min through orange groves and cattle ranches to the farm in the middle of nowhere. They have 30 horses on the farm, a couple of rescues, but mostly stallions and breeding stock. They have no babies this year because of the economy and enough show stock. Maybe in a year or 2 they will start breeding again. It was a wonderful show, we all enjoyed. Our friend Joanne arrived on Fri for a visit and is staying with Ginnie for week. So there were 5 of ... read more

The One About Good News and Nice Stories I wasn’t going to write today, but several things happened, and the writer in me knew I had to put this one story down before I forgot about it. Knowing we needed to be on the road about 11 to get to Orlando Airport to pick up Joanne, I lazed around, did a couple of chores, took Winston for a very long bike ride/walk, rearranged my rear cargo space one more time, and talked to neighbors. While I was making my bed, I looked out my window and saw the neighbor whose rig is behind Kathy’s sitting on the ground trying to get up. He was having difficulty, so I started out my door and around to help him up, when I noticed his lady, assuming wife, was ... read more

Company! My sister Denise came for a visit! I drove my little car to the Tampa airport yesterday and picked her up right on schedule. It was a beautiful trip through “old” Florida, cattle ranches, orange groves and phosphate mines. Dee loved seeing the sunshine and we rode most of the way home with the top down. The smells were incredible as they were picking some of the orange trees and others were in blossom. We made it back in time to have lunch, take Oscar for a quick walk and get to the meeting place for a tour of an animal sanctuary just across the highway from our campground. We were greeted by a black cat that acted as our tour guide and went with us on the whole trip. They have an elevated boardwalk ... read more

The One About Peaceful Lazy Days (get the pun….Peace River, Lazy Days????) The days have settled into the peaceful rhythm that I so enjoy on my Snowbird trip. I stay up until midnight, walking Winston at the last second so I can see the stars without any noise and limited light pollution. I sleep late (7:00 has become late), walk Winston again, eat breakfast, shower, then do some type of chore (reorganize closets, sweep, wash windows.) Lunch, General Hospital, crochet, Happy Hour, dinner, long girlie conversations, back to TV and writing or more crochet. I am very, very content. One night Ginnie and I did Bingo. $3 for 4 cards, 10 games. I didn’t need my new dauber, these thick, reusable cards had slides over the numbers. For 9 games the prizes were $15 to $17, ... read more

Can’t believe I haven’t posted for several days. They have just gone by so fast, just nice relaxing lazy days. I have walked in the campground, taken some pictures, and kept an eye on the river for native critters. Today I was rewarded with my first sighting of “Old Stumpy”. They kept saying there were 2 alligators in the river that sun themselves in the afternoon but I haven’t seen them, maybe it wasn’t warm enough. Today it reached 82 (sorry all you northerners) so I collected camera, lenses, tripod, sunglasses and hat and dragged Oscar to the river to see if we could get lucky. We did . Old Stumpy was on the opposite bank and it took me several minutes to spot him he was so well blended in to his surroundings. He even ... read more

The One About Spending More Money I slept until 8:03. I remember waking up at 4 something, rolling over to relieve the pins and needles in my right arm, and didn’t wake up again until 8:03. I did stay up until midnight, so I guess that’s what is required of me to sleep past 6:00. Who cares, I’m on ‘vacation.’ Some ‘neighbors’ came over wanting a tour. I should charge admission!!! I need to make some money to defray my new expenses, need to start somewhere……laugh. It’s fun. I’m having a good time. Kathy spent the night away on her goonie adventure. Ginnie said I could borrow her car, as long as I got her a few groceries. I told her I would be gone a few hours, never expecting a few to turn into 3. ... read more

The One About Big Girl Panties Fitting Just Right. I am woman, year me ROARRRRRRR. After I finished writing last night, and while I still had a great free internet connection, I went to the Lazydays web site and reviewed the class I took on Friday. Great video and slides, almost identical to my live class without the benefit of being able to interrupt the instructor for clarification. Lazydays presents a method of driving that puts (Avery) dots on your rig, windshield and mirrors so you know where your tires are, how far behind you is 3 feet, yadda yadda yadda. I mentally pictured me and Vista (I don’t have a name for her yet, open to all suggestions) driving down the road and parking back at Thousand Trails. I knew the material, I just needed ... read more

Settling in and enjoying the warmth Kat was up early to go to the rv dealer to pick up her new rig. I had to run out and snap a picture of her old rig so we can compare the old and new. It was cold out, 44 degrees, so I ran out said good bye and ran back in and back to bed. Kat is supposed to return tomorrow afternoon with her new rv after orientation and driving lessons. After coffee and GMA on the gorgeous new tv Oscar and I went out for a necessary walk. Back inside I had a phone call from Jane, my wonderful friend from home, to hear that it was 2 degrees in the Poconos. I couldn’t wait to brag that it was now almost 70 degrees and very ... read more
