Cooking to DoveCooking to DoveCooking to Dove

Gulf Coast in Florida
We’ve been in Florida for almost a week now. On Tuesday night we camped in the Panhandle close to the coast. We bought 2 lbs of shrimp and barbequed the dove for dinner. The next day we got up a drove a bit further down the coast. Along the way saw a bunch of seafood places where the fisherman would come sell their oysters and shrimp from the bay. Because it was Tuesday afternoon, we thought it was the perfect time to buy some oysters and beer and head to the beach. We stopped at one shop and Matt asked how much a dozen oysters cost. The man, with a thick accent and gruff voice, informed us that he didn't sell them by the dozen. He sold them by the bag. Matt asked how much was in a bag. Slightly irritated, the man told us a bag was 60 lbs, but he would sells us a half bag. Oh, and the half bag (30 lbs of oysters!) was only $13. It was probably the easiest sale he made all day! We didn't eat all 30lbs but we managed to put away at least 8 dozen between the two of us! It

was sooooooo good! So our afternoon was spent eating oysters, drinking Coronas, and body surfing in the Gulf. I love vacation!

We got to Tampa last Wednesday afternoon. We visited with Matt’s family for a while and unpacked our VERY messy car. After camping for almost a month, our system of organization no longer existed.

Thursday we ran a few errands for our trip and relaxed for the rest of the afternoon. Around 3:00p Matt’s Uncle Greg flew in from Pennsylvania. Jeff, Kelsey, Pat, Greg, Granny, Grandpa, Matt, and I played Matt’s Grandpa’s chipping game in the backyard. Matt made the VERY lucky shot into the mailbox on the fly. He thought he was pretty good after that! Luckily I beat him the next two times we played! After the game we all went out to pizza for dinner. We stayed up late that night playing Monopoly. Do to so great negotiating, I won the game. I’m not sure if I am invited back for family game night any more 😊

Friday we all took a canoe trip with the alligators and turtles. It was really cool to get so close to the animals and we got

some amazing pictures from our trip.

On Saturday we ran a few more errands and relaxed around the house again before going over to Jeff and Diedra’s for dessert.

Sunday we went to the beach in the afternoon to play in the waves and soak up some sun before our full day of packing. The only bad thing about the beach was the seagulls! They were so bad! I had a hotdog and one of the birds fly down and grabbed it out of my hand! Matt thought that was really funny and started throwing chips next to me so all the birds would swarm. The only problem with that was that I am way smarter and faster than him 😊 Before we left I got the birds to grab food of his head and one of the birds slapped him in the face, literally.

Today is the day we have not been looking forward to. We have to sort through the car full of stuff we brought and limit ourselves to two backpacks worth! It’s not fun. Matt is sorting through all the fishing gear right now. I having feeling he is going to leave some

clothes behind to make sure he has enough room for all his fishing toys! I guess you have to have your priorities!

Well, I should get back to work now! We hope everyone is doing well and we’ll keep in touch while we’re gone.

Give Haley a hug if you are in Portland!

bye-bye
It sounds like the most amazing trip so far and I'm sure this is only half the fun you'll have! If Matt has to leave clothes behind, make sure he takes his Dillon Aero Gatling Gun, the boys in Scotsdale will want to know they are represented around the world! Haley gives great hugs and I'm happy to give her another one. Angus misses you guys as well, he's getting huge!

The good life
Man, I'm SOOO happy (and a bit jealous) of your trip so far. And I know that it's only the start of the plans, which means many more good times and adventures to come. The talk of the dove and oysters is making my mouth water like Ozzie's with a milkbone in my hand! Sounds delicious. Keep smiling and keep safe!

oysters upon oysters
I think you should tally up the total tonage of oysters consumed on your US leg of the trip. It seems that your diet was out of balance...yet delicious. Kudos to you two for sure....onward.
