Pre inca pyramid in lima - blow your mind if you were there Holla!!!!!!!!!!
To quickly answer all of your questions......
Yes, we did fall off the edge of the earth
Yup, Flying around the tropical storm in a 767 made for a bumpy ride
No, no one here wears bones through their noses
.....AND YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!! THE WATER DOES SWIRL BACKWARDS IN THE TOILET BECAUSE WE ARE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE!!!!!!!!!!..........OK I lied about that one ---- I am dislexic and cant remember which way it went in the first place.´Sorry.
Quick fact--------- Spanish keyboards are way different then ours at home & spanish spell check don´t catch all them errors that I tend to type into the the computer machienes so be kind and understanding about my literary exploits. ----- Don´t laugh cuz I´ll cry.
Any hoo...... I gues you all want to hear about what we have been up to for the past week. Well,..... I had Pizza & cervesa!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nooooooo, just kidding ----Let me start with, hmmmmm..... Did I ever tell you about the time Elyse and I had a burger............ in bogata, columbia................. ( This is when the movie screne fades out and you enter the scene described below)
We left granny´s
Original Bricks
Pre-Inca 1000 years. Made without a mold. Stacked vetically with no filler to withstand earthquakes. Amazing! house at 0-dark-30 and boarded a greyhound buss for miami. the ride was long and the people were stinky. we arrived in miami around 5 pm. our flight was to leave at 7 am the next morning so we did what any rational people would do....... headed to the bars fo0r a few stiff drinks & then found a dark corner of the airport where everyone else in our same perdicament was crashed out, tryiung to sleep in those uncomfortable chairs, & then rolled out our sleepingbags & airmattresses and had a good nights sleep!
Next thing I knew we were checked in and boarding our flight to bogata (Shhhhhh, that´s where he had the burger) where we had a 3 hr layover. Through flight took an extra hr because we had to fly around the tropical storm, but it was worth it!!!!!!! when we landed, I exited the aircraft, went down the giant movable tunnel thingy, ande ran smack dab into a giant mound of coca, you know with gold!!!!!!!!!! the airport was ful of it!!!!!!! Elyse and I were doing swan dives into the stuff!!!
OK back from fantacy land - it was juist a normal
Pottery Collection
Just some of the potter collection at Museo Larco. They have over 55,000 pots dating back to 8,000 BC. ariport with a bunch of spanish speaking dudes and a little cafe that served burgers to us way white looking folks. I basically slept and ate a burger & then we got on the next plane. sorry to disapoiont --- (I know I had planned on starting up my own cartel but what are you gonna do)
OK ------ Elyse is going to type for a bit but I´ll be back soon.
Well, seeing that Matt can spend an hour typing about a one and half day journey, I´ll try to speed things up a bit.
Lima is like most big cities in Latin America. . . Big, smoggy, and have a limited number of things to do. (Interjection - way smoggier than the us, and because the economy is poorer there are less musiems) Here are a few of the highlights:
Not getting ripped off by the taxis at the airport (I read the guide book just in time!)
Finding a hotel that had beer in the hotel (Very importand after traveling for 2 days straight)
Watching the Heartbreak Kid in english with spanish subtitles
Watching about 15 other movies that are
in the theater in our hostel (apparently this is a REALLY big place for pirating flims!)
Hanging out in an English pub listening to a Peruvian band cover AmericanEnglish rock bands
Realizing that 64oz beers cost $3 in the restaurants
Spending 2 hours lost in a taxi trying to find the Museo Larco. . . should have brought the guide book with us..... (stop stop stop....... museo larco is an awesome musiem that has a great collection of ancient inca and pre inca works of art in both potteryt and metal work. not to metnion the worlds largest collection of erotic pottery)
Finding my MOST FAVORITE rum in the whole world ¨´Flor de Caña´¨ - Yes Christina and Sarah, they sell it in Lima!
Watching a crazy man with a cross around his neck walk up to Matt at an outdoor cafe, take off his shoe, and rub Matt´s foot while mumbling nonsense. The women behind us, who actually understood what he said, thought it was even funnier than we did!
Hmm. . . that´s all I can think of. . . I´ll give it back to Matt now. . . .
Wow
she spouted a lot but it is tough to cover it all... let me start by saying that Lima is a beautiful city by the sea. it is a pearched on a huge cliff overlooking the pacific. Paragliders take off from the cities cliffs while surfers ride the waves below. It is truely an interesting place........ those are the good parts. but it does suffer from the porverty that you may expect to see in a south american city.
Given the good and the bad, I am favorably impressed by Lima, the poeople ane kind and helpful, the beer is cheap, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself.
tomorrow we are headed to Cuzco & I will report again
We miss you all and give Haley lots of hugs! We would love to know what everyone else is up to!
