Up at Dark O’clock… We left St. John’s at 500am, I could hardly sleep I was so excited. We checked in for our Westjet flight and we winged our way to Toronto. We had a good few hours in Toronto so we made our way thru Terminal 3 and on to the US Wing and Customs. There is never a dull moment as it seems they pick me everytime for random searches and the like. I believe its because I look so pissed off in my Passport photo.. ha ha.
We were able to catch some breakfast at the airport restaurant, we ordered via iPad provided at every table. Which was great you could use the iPads to surf the web check your email or your flight status.. very cool. I love the way they are using technology However, I gotta say it was one of the most expensive Bacon and Eggs I ever purchased, but what do you expect from Airport Venue’s. They have a captive audience.
We made it to Miami around 230p local time, you could feel the heat as we were waiting for our bags which seemed to take forever. But maybe
we were just super anxious to get to the hotel as we were pretty exhausted by that time. I was done in by almost 7hrs flying time.
We got the bags and headed to the Hotel- Double Tree Biscayne Bay. Close to the port, but more importantly free- I used Hilton rewards points. Gotta love it. The cab ride from the airport was about 25-27 US. I mention this as everything I read online was saying about 20US. Next time i will ask about a flat rate- or Uber!
The hotel was great.. I loved the room, spacious clean the king bed was super comfy. Who can complain about the free cookies and the staff gave us some water bottles as Miami is super hot, especially when you are coming from the East Coast of Newfoundland. Another perk that I appreciated was the ice water they had in the lobby, great for refilling water bottles. I did find that that hallways were dark and a bit dirty, I attribute this the old carpet, that could use replacing. But I can’t say enough about the room, nice to hang on the balcony and watch the activity on
Biscayne Bay - Fantastic!
We got ready and off to go meet some friends at the Hard Rock Cafe. We read up online and decided to take the Miami Trolley, Which was awesome they looked like the street trolley cars that I saw in New Orleans. It was free and it stopped right by our hotel every 15mins, super nice not to have to spend $$ on cabs. It only took 10-15mins right from Biscayne bay to the Biscayne Marketplace, which has tons of shopping and food venues. I should have stopped at the Starbucks to get my Mug- which I collect everywhere I go.. but too much to see and do. It was fun to hang out at the Hard Rock and see all the memorabilia , but much nicer to have a cool drink with friends. We went back to our hotel around 10pm as we were worn out and wanted to be fresh in the morning for our 9am boarding time at the cruise terminal.. Can’t wait!!!
