A bittersweet day today, folks. First, Cory (son) took Rachael to the airport early this morning. She flies back to college and her work in Alabama. Then, Cory and his family left Topical Palms and headed to Vero Beach for a couple days before taking the very long jaunt back to New York. The time we had together was wonderful but way too brief. We did get the chance to finally sing Happy Birthday to the 3 birthday boys. As we sang, I thought of Stan with all the birthday songs he had sung to him. Many, many, many. And he wanted even more! Next year, Stan. We shall miss our family but will reunite with Cory back in NY once we head home. Lulu has been sobbing all day.
We went up to the lobby for coffee this morning. The “regular” group has dwindled down to just a few as more and more of the long termer’s head North.....back into the cold and crappy weather. Lulu grabbed her last chance to be with some of these soon-to-be departees. There is a stillness in the hot, sweltering air as we look around for familiar faces and so many of them
are gone. We’ll be looking for all of them next year.
Fortunately, our loyal friends, Sam & Sandy are still here. They plan to leave around May Day. We are leaving on April 23rd (FYI: Sandy Foreman’s birthday). Remember we are first going to Lazy Days to get some work done on our RV before heading north. Our daughter, Lory, and her family are still here. They depart on the 9th. Today they went to a Safari place in Lakeland. Sounded like a neat place to go. You could even take camel rides! Oh, Lulu drooled when I told her that! She game for anything like that. I don’t know how the seatbelt would fit around her head.
We went with Sandy & Sam and ran a couple errands. Decided to have lunch at Bar Harbor. Always a great place to eat. A big, delicious, fried shrimp dinner with a ton of fries and creamy coleslaw for $7.98. How can you go wrong with that? Their market lobsters were for sale for $6.98 each. They were huge! Sandy bought a couple and I bought one. Lulu was licking her lips.
As the day passed, we all agreed
that ice cream would hit the spot. We went to a Baskin-Robbins. What a flop. Sam & I got what we wanted except Sam’s ice cream had nuts in it that he didn’t realize....nuts! Cory and Sandy got nothing. Sniffle. All the cartons of ice cream in their display freezer were scraped down to the bottom and covered with ice crystals. No more in the back freezer. Can you believe this? An ice cream parlor with no ice cream! Geeze. So Cory and Sandy had nothing and could only watch Sam and me devour our cooling treat. Yum! Now that’s a bummer.
The other day when our granddaughter, Sara, and her friend, Ashlynn were here, they used our golf cart to drive around the park. When they traveled along a ditch that runs behind our community building, they came across a big turtle partially in the road. The ditch has been dried up for a long time. Sara, an animal lover, picked up the turtle and they took it over to our alligator pond and placed it in the water. I’m sure the turtle gave them a thank you wave with its flipper foot. Another life saved!
Yesterday,
Departure Day this morning
Shenen, Cory, Penny, Molly I had my post-op visit for my eye with my eye doctor. I had a list to review with him. He’s very nice and patient. Said my eye was just great..a little dry (I use restasis) for that) but just fine. I’m now scheduled to have my other eye done next Wednesday, April 11th. I’ll be glad to have it done. It gets tricky working with a good eye and the one I wear glasses for. AND my appointment is at 10:15 AM so we don’t have to get up in the middle of the night and travel in the dark. The picture and write up about this doctor may be too small for you to read. If you tap on the picture, it will go to another screen and enlarge. That’s a early photo of the doctor....now he is 54 years old and has less hair....don’t we all? Lulu says she only does because I cut off all her flowing brunette locks. Sorry, pretty girl.
What’s on our agenda next? That will be decided at the moment. We are just playing everything by ear and going from there. Whatever and wherever we do & go, we’ll be sure
to let you know. Lulu keeps herself right at our door entrance so she isn’t left behind. She doesn’t want to miss anything.....Miss Buttinsky.

Sounds like you've had a busy week with everyone there... always sad to them leave and have to leave......beautiful turtle ...so nice of Sara to rescue it.... good luck on your next eye surgery....doesn't seem possible it is time for everyone to start leaving down there... it has been a crampy week of weather here ...snow this morning and high winds last night ...etc... not a good week for spring break....
