We had a show this morning after an extended sound check. The kids and stage management were working on running costume changes a few extra times, so I ran some errands and did some reading. Then, I got to explain to some of the girls what we travel with, what I do for my job, who does everything else… Then we had a nice show in the hot weather. We hit lunch at Jimmy John’s (woohoo!) and watched a bit of men’s lacrosse practice while sunning ourselves. I actually got to spend quite a bit of time today reading in the sun, although 75 was getting a little warm for my taste. Today, I wore my new hat and had my hair down and curly for a while. Prossy said it looked hott (or was ... read more

I thought about setting my alarm last night, but instead figured I’d wake up in time to go to…lunch. I woke up just after 8, but went back to sleep. Next thing I knew, Sarah was texting me, letting me know we were going to leave in 25 minutes, at 11:49. A quick shower was in order, and then Kyle, Sarah, Cowboy and I set off to find some bbq! We found a great local joint with fantastic pulled pork and huge glasses for water and tea. Then off the the theater! It was great having a complete rig set up for us, a crew ready to roll, and no time limit. Another completely “kitted-out” (as Kyle would say) university theater. All of us were out of clean clothes, so laundry was in order as well, ... read more

I finished my book last night! Actually, it was sometime early this morning, but it’s finished regardless. Today was supposed to be a short day- just a 4 hour drive to Gainesville, FL, but it sort of got lengthened. We left before 10 and headed even more south. We went through Gainesville to drop Dana off with some friends of hers. We were supposed to meet an hour outside of Gainesville, but ended up going an hour and a half to our rendezvous point, and then had to wait almost an hour for them to arrive, and come back. What we thought was going to be a 4 hour drive and an early afternoon turned into over 7 hours of driving and arriving just as the kids were having dinner. It was a much longer day ... read more

To my blog readers: No, I am not on the road again, but a few days ago I went somewhere, not far at all. I left my office in the middle of the afternoon, under the Florida heat, to join the democrat crowd and to welcome Michelle Obama to Gainesville. It was very exciting being one of 11,000 enthusiasts ready for change, hopefully helping to make history. Michelle was a very good speaker and she definitely ignited the crowd. The US policies have affected the lives of so many, here in the US and abroad. Even as a traveler, I felt the negative effects. When travelling abroad, in many countries I no longer felt free, or more importantly, safe, to say “I came from the US”, afraid of becoming target of one of the many enemies ... read more

We drove a massive day to stay with friends in Gainesville taking approximately 13 hours. We picked up two riders off craiglist to contribute to gas, one went from NOLA to Tallahassee and the other joined us in Tallahassee till Gainesville. We also took a slight detour to drive by the Emerald Coast (in the Florida panhandle) and were rewarded with beautiful beaches but with a lot of development too. We stayed in the ‘Zen Hostel’ near campus, which ironically was anything but zen! Not a terrible experience in all but I wouldn’t go so far as to recommend it to others. Comfy room, door didn’t lock, weird staff, outdoor breezy shower and our beer went missing. I guess you get what you pay for! We caught up for a beer with our friend Alex that ... read more

We booked our tickets for the first leg of the trip. Starting on April 12 from Fort Lauderdale transatlantic to Barcelona, Spain. On the way we will be visiting Lisbon, Portugal,Caciz, Spain and Malaga, Spain. It will take us 14 days to get to Barcelona. The great thing of traveling by ship is that you arrive well rested and adjusted to the time difference. It's like a moving hotel room, beats flying if you have the time. I'm starting to get excited......... read more

While we were living in San Francisco we hosted people on couchsurfing. One of the people we hosted was a great guy named Louis who was travelling from Florida to see the Pogues (a fantastic irish band) in California. Every day he was at our house he said he'd leave the next day to go explore more of California, and every time he decided to stay, and we were happy to have him. Jump ahead five months, now Brandi and I are the one's on the road, and being hosted by couchsurfers. We were in Florida already, so we decided to contact Louis and see his world. It was the first time we were able to both host and surf with the same person. Louis actually lives in Hawthorne, a suburb of Gainesville, out in ... read more
