We stopped here on the way to Pensacola, FL and spent several hours exploring the two estates. Thomas Edison bought his estate with 13 acres and two homes that were built. His original plan was to share it with his good friend and business partner Ezra Gilliland who bought the house and 4 acres that were on the south end of the property. Edison planted over 17000 plants of 2000 species of plants to use in botanic research

Here is an example of learning new things...while everyone knows about the light bulb and the phonograph and work on motion pictures, how many people knew about him inventing the high chair or the electric waffle iron and toaster.

This Banyon fig tree was 2 ft in diameter and 4 ft tall when Thomas Edison planted it. It is now the largest known Banyon Fig tree at over an acre in diameter with 350 roots.
