Driving from Cheyenne to Colorado Springs on I-25 took about three and a half hours. We stayed in Colorado Springs on Sunday night. Colorado Springs is right at the foot of the Rocky Mountains and close to Pikes Peak. Our objective was to travel to the summit of Pikes Peak, 14,115 feet (4302 m), on Monday. It is quite an amazing view up there. However, the air is thin so ones needs to acclimate.

A visitors perspective is very interesting...
we live in Woodland Park, so what you experienced has become routine for us...except we drive up Pikes Peak.

Pikes Peak
I think I would stay with the train. It's more scenic from what I can tell and there would always be an opportunity to photograph something new along the line.
