Now to start this blog, an important announcement - the wildlife count took a dramatic increase on Day 18 - please add 3 x Longhorn Sheep, 1 x Deer & 1 x Fox (the chicken stealing kind, not the kind you find at nightclubs!) Let's hope the count continues to increase! Day 16 - Here we are in Colorado Springs, sitting in Applebee's for dinner, looking out at Pikes Peak complete with a fresh dusting of snow and ominous black clouds gathering. Hopefully they'll be gone in the morning when we ride past the 14,115 feet high peak. Glad to get out of Garden City this morning, the air had the pungent odor of cattle, millions of cattle, so we've been told that there are 7 feedlots around town & two abattoir's which process 11,000 head ... read more

Life is full of surprises, but this was one of the best ever! I woke up this morning knowing that it was going to be a very exciting day! I was finally going to ride over the Continental Divide at Hoosier Pass. It is the highest point on the Trans America Trail, 11,539’ above sea level. I made sure to have a good breakfast and fill my water bottles for this memorable day! At that time, I didn’t know how memorable! The day started out climbing from the moment I jumped on the saddle and continued that way for twelve miles to the top of Hoosier. The serious climbing was about 4 miles long and the thin air was a factor for sure. However, once I got in the rhythm, I just kept a steady pace ... read more

Now begins the 1200 mile trip back to Arkansas. Mother Nature seems to have us in the temperature temperate zone. Will just have to see if the forcast is real. The road from Paonia hwy 133 wound around to I-70. Passing through a very high pass at Vail Colorado. 10,600 ft and very chilly! Hooray! Stopped in Dillon for night and recommend Super 8. However, there is no elevator. People here just walk more I guess. One can get winded at 9000 feet if not careful, I figured I would have to do cpr on Charlie once or twice! We recommend the mexican restaurant across from the hotel. The rally at Paonia was pretty uneventful so no posts were made. Travel tip: when changing altitudes many times it is a good idea to put your lotions in ... read more

Oliver woke up cranky from his nap on our drive up to Glenwood Springs. Not wanting to push him past his limit, Andrew and I pulled into the mountain town of Dillon, Colorado. Dillon is known for its beautiful lake (which is really a reservoir) and mountain views. At over 9,000 feet in altitude, the town stays fairly cool (it was in the high 60s when we arrived), and it was a nice change from the heat of Denver. We pulled up into the free parking area by the water and made the easy hike down to the shore. There were a couple people fishing off the dock, but, other than that, we were alone. After touching the water first myself (cold, but not frigid), I let Oliver put his toes into it. The three of ... read more

I have seen the Cordovas more times this year than the majority of my friends who live in Omaha, but when my parents told me they had a condo for this past weekend the first thing I did was check in with Erin and Steve to see what they were doing. Once they let me know that they were down I decided that I was going to fly out on Thursday and then drive up to the mountains on Friday. Outside of the Cordovas there were two other people who live in Denver that I wanted to meet up with. The first, Sara, lived in Thailand while I was there. She is the one who inspired me to start blogging. (http://www.travelblog.org/Bloggers/Sara-G/) I had been doing research for things to see and do while in Thailand, ... read more
