Sorry I got a bit preoccupied doing other things and haven't updated my blogs in quite a while. But they're getting to the end of my time in the USA so keep reading to see how it pans out. Apologies for the poor quality photos from now on, my digi cam stopped working. After spending the previous day at Universal Studios, the tour then went into Malibu in the morning. I was quite excited at the possibility of some star-spotting at the Malibu Starbucks but was let down - nobody I recognised was there when we were. After our coffee stop we travelled towards LA and beyond along the beach by all the nice expensive houses. We drove through Santa Monica, Brentwood, LA, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Wilshire and Westwood not necessarily in ... read more

I'm going to combine some of these days' entries because there either isn't much to say, or aren't many pictures. So we started the day with a short stop at the Madonna Inn - not the famous singer but a couple who's surname is Madonna. The reason for this stop was to check out the male toilets (yes Aaron was a little weird!). They toilets were fairly interesting - in place of the usual urinal was a waterfall type thing that would send water down when a guy stood to pee (there was a sensor). Apparently this help them to pee - in case they have stage fright - as well as washes it down so they don't have to flush. Let's face it, how many guys do flush anyway? Next we drove to a small ... read more

Ok, so this is a "first" blog... something I don't really do as I prefer my Livejournal. But in the interests of trying to get organized I have decided that I would rather have a separate space for my travel comments, review of resturants, etc. Anyway, I recently went camping in Yosemite National Park in California. It wasn't my first time camping there, however it was the first at the Lower Pines site in Yosemite Valley. I have to say that I really enjoyed the spot, it had a good view of Half Dome and the surrounding area, was close to Curry Village, and IMO was not too crowded. However, if you want a lot of space for your campsite, this is probably not the campground for you. I felt as if it was far enough ... read more

This morning we set off towards Monterey, a small seaside town made famous by some section of it called Cannery Row and some author called John Steinback - never heard of him myself. But the bay is quite cute. Four of us went sea kayaking for a while along the shoreline. We saw sea otters pop up beside us. My camera stopped working all together this day so most of the photos in the next few blogs are from a disposable camera. We were in Monterey a few hours. Then we drove to Carmel to have lunch. That is all we did there - sit on the beach and have lunch. I was so mad that we had spent such a long time at Monterey & only got half an hour at Carmel which is so ... read more

Leaving England was actually harder than we thought. We'd been dreaming of our big adventure for so long, and while it was exciting to be getting started, it was sad to say goodbye to everyone. The plane ride from London to LAX was a sombre one, all of us deep in our own thoughts of what we had left behind. But once we arrived in LA, it was all systems go! We decided (in the interests of saving money) to catch the metro into downtown LA, rather than catching a taxi or shuttle bus. When we had to change trains at midnight in Compton though, we started to wonder if maybe we'd been a bit too cheap. But fortunately it all worked out well and we made our way to our hostel in West Hollywood. We ... read more

Well today started off quite emotionally, with a sad goodbye "gathering" in one of the rooms where we presented Priska, the greatest tour leader ever with a framed photograph of the group and the crazy Japs read us out a message thanking us for being kind and including them in everything even though they couldn't speak much english. Apparently the 30 second speech took them about 2 hours to translate into perfect english! We were quite a close group. Fortunately for me, 4 girls were joining me on another week's tour starting later today. So then after breakfast we got in the car together as a group for the last time. We headed to the Golden Gate Bridge again, this time to walk over it. Then we drove to the 7 sisters - a group of ... read more

Praise God...we're back home! After 16 days, 15,000 miles, 7 flights, 4 hotel rooms, countless buses, taxis, subways, ferries and restaurants, the Homs have completed their Amazing Race for Sarah. No million dollar prize, but the reward of bringing home a priceless blessing - our baby Boo-Boo, Sarah-Barah, Chik-Fil-A, baby cakes, Princess Beautiful Sparkle, Lai Jing! God's been incredibly generous to us through this process. Formally, it started for us in mid-July of 2004, shortly after Sarah was born, and 13 1/2 months later, the process is complete. She's here! Whoo-hoo! As we mentioned after our flight to Beijing, we just can't sleep on an airplane. Can you imagine just sitting there, praying that your baby won't start throwing a tantrum, looking at your watch and counting down the hours? "OK, that's two hours down, only ... read more

Today we headed towards San Francisco, stopping along the way at a winery in Sonoma Valley - much the same as the more famous Napa Valley. There were lots of yummy things to try there, so we pretty much ate lunch trying out all the dips and things! We then headed into San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge. What a sight. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the greatest and fog covered the top so you couldn't actually see the top of the bridge. In San Fran, like all the other places except Vegas we were supposed to be staying in a campsite. But earlier in the week (day 2 I think) Priska had decided that we were too loud and would probably get kicked out of the San Fran campsite so had organised us a bed ... read more
