First things first, what an amazing city! One of those places that is on most peoples bucket list and it didn't disappoint. The cable cars are a must simply just for the experience unless of course you have travel sickness and/or are afraid of heights. Them hills are pretty damn steep. The flight is a long way from England so when we arrived at around 5pm California time we were pretty tired. We just took a look around the shops and there is a good selection of brands if you are looking to shop. The next day we woke up at about 3am. No worries though as we had to be up early to take the trip to Alcatraz anyway. We had a nice bumpy morning ... read more

Pattie and Ron's Vacation 2010 - Part 4 When we arrived at Ft Bragg the skies were over cast. We quickly settled into our hotel and about two hours later decided to go to the Safeway store a few blocks down the street and pick up some T.V. dinners. We both were tired and decided to eat in the room instead of going out. To our surprise, when we opened the door, the fog had rolled in cutting visibility to about twenty feet. Ron had wanted to run in the morning. We feared the fog would put a damper on that. To our surprise, when we woke and looked outside the next morning, the fog had vanished. Clear skies greeted us and the sound of surf echoed in the distance. After a quick two and a ... read more

Got up pronto so i had time for two waffles! Got the bus to Pier 33 for our trip to Alcatraz. Was very cool today and we were all glad we packed jumpers and fleeces, especially sitting on the top deck of the boat. Alcatraz was fascinating, the audio tour was really good and helped set the scene of what it was like to live there. Most famous inmates were Al capone and ...forgotton already! When back on the Wharf we got some of the famous clam chowder or rather i did, the boys had nachos with cheese and chilli and Andy had chilli in a sour bread bowl. The chowder was delicious, tasted like my fish pie. We then decided to hire bikes and 'bike the bridge'. Started off well and got some great shots ... read more

San Fransisco was amazing. Let's recap, here's hoping I can remember it all! Thursday Night- a date with Jen night. Being in Marin county is great! Being in Marin county with a resident, amazing! I saw the cute spots on the water to hang, got the low down on the neighborhoods, and even saw where my friend grew up, stilts, redwoods and all! Friday- Boat Tour The highlight of this day could have easily been my visit to the city to do the touristy things, like Ghiaradelli's square and the wharf, but it wasn't, due to the fact that my company had a bachelor party the day before and he wasn't much fun. However, by the time the cruise on the USS Potomac rolled around, he was feeling good, as was I. I love boats! Boating ... read more

10th April It was a very wet Sunday that we went to Alcatraz. The boat ride was a bit choppy - thank goodness it only lasted 20 minutes. A lot of the buildings are falling down, with the cell block being one of the only buildings remaining standing. The audio tour is recommended and it will take you around the cell block, fully explaining the hardships as well as the attempted escapes made by the inmates. It was interesting to learn that families of the jail wardens actually lived on the island and commuted daily by boat to the mainland to attend school. Apparently, the children would stand outside the jail block and sing Christmas carols to the inmates each Christmas Eve. The jail ceased functioning as such on 31st March 1962.... read more

Americans do make me giggle - lots and out loud. They are the one country on the planet we expect, as a mainly English speaking nation, to act in a particular way and yet are the most foreign of countries. I think its because they are a mixture of so many different cultures, what ever they do seems acceptable, but is more often than not peculiar and often very very funny. For example, I’m sitting in LAX (Los Angeles Airport) waiting for a delayed plane to be announced and as I look up, a middle aged lady, of obvious Asian decent, is fiddling with her ticket. She’s wearing a bright and very flowery summery looking dress, with a padded winter jacket and pulling a case along behind her. Not that peculiar really. Not until a second ... read more

Started today with our Urban Safari Tour with a crazy insane tour guide. She was dressed in tight leopard skin pants, a safari shirt and a safari hat with a huge feather. We all (6 of us - 2 Sydneysiders and 2 annoying yanks) had to sing before she would start the tour. However it turned out to be a fantastic morning. We were in the back of a decked out ute so we got to go to more areas than the usual Double Decker tour buses. We went to the Palace of Fine Arts (Ga. It was built to be a temporary building for a San Fran Party and to be ripped down after a year, but they kept it there. Been in a few movies. Next was an up-close look at Golden Gate bridge ... read more

Well to get to San Francisco we decided to take the cheapest flight with SouthWest Airlines, as recommended by Julia. To get here the time that we wanted we decided to take the flight via San Diego! Crazy I know but it worked out for us. Until that is we landed in San Diego ran to get the connection flight and were advised that it was delayed due to bad weather for at least 2 hours! We were not fazed by this and thought that it was par for the course & we had been lucky so far! But some people were having hissy fits! I am suprised that they did not throw themselves on the floor & pound it with there fists! We were lucky though, because as we were diggin into an over priced ... read more
