Left Redwood Valley around 8 am and headed out to Santa Rosa to meet up with a friend that I went to High School with. He suggested that if we had any time, we see a town called Healdsburg along the way and we did have the time, so we stopped. What a very quaint town... we parked the car along what looked like a main street and got out and started walking. Small galleries, shops and loads of coffee shops in the area... we knew we'd stop for some coffee and chai, but wanted to walk around a bit. We found a men's clothing shop and we picked up a hat for Ivan. Being British and well, PALE... he was already needing the extra protection... this hat was the best thing... ended up being a ... read more

Well we are headed towards San Fransisco and the Frisco Bay in this blog. We have been there before, but just briefly with the kids about 10 years ago.. This time we will be there longer so we think we'll do some ......."sitting on the Dock of the Bay". We'll watch "the tide roll away" and possibly even "waste some time". Mon-May 16, 2011 HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our Cyndi. Our beautiful middle daughter turned 26 year old on this day. We woke up in sunny Bakersfield California. Well we really didn't sleep all that well. It turned out that the motel we stayed at recieved most of their patronage from long haul truckers. Good for them, but I heard the last trucker come in to his room at about 1:30 am and then I started to ... read more

May 2nd was technically the last day on the road and we set off for our last stop, San Francisco with great excitement. We had decided to stay in a more residential part of town, Japantown, so that we could get a better sense of SF and an attempt to feel a little more anchored than the previous weeks. It was nice to not feel like a full-on tourist and the local bars and restaurants in nearby Fillmore were warm and welcoming; so much so that we enjoyed two meals out in that area. The first was at a fabulous seafood place, the Woodhouse Fish Company; the food was amazing and well worth the hour wait. In fact we waited in Florio across the road which impressed us so much we went back the next day ... read more

Doncs ja hem arribat a l'últim dia... demà ens toca llevar-nos aviat perquè a les 8:30 surt l'avió cap a Philadelphia (on fem escala).

Hi everyone, Week 1 has been great, really busy and loving not being at home although missing everyone! We spent 8 days in San Francisco, did the usual tourist things like Alcatraz, Coit Tower, Golden Gate Bridge and Park, went on the cable cars and got a ferry to Sausalito. Also did some extras thanks to Lisa and Juan, and George like wine tasting in Marin County and getting drunk in a local bar! (home from home!) We had a really long journey to New Zealand yesterday, were on the go for 40+ hours to get here, spent the 1st night in a hostel after a few beers in a Mauri bar last night. Leaving to pick our camper van up in a mo, can't wait to get out on the road and in the countryside! ... read more

Well we finally made it ashore and for at least a day were still swaying as though we were on board ship! Or maybe that was a bit too much of the pop? We arrived at the Hotel to be TOTALLY blown away by the sheer opulence of the place. It's just amazing and the staff are lovely, not making you feel like a tourist!!! (even though we are!) We now have a room with a wardrobe/dressing room bigger than our Cabin on the ship - you can just imagine the size of the room, I feel like something out of Alice in wonderland after she has drunk the bottle marked "small". The first day here we did not want to waste any time and scooted off down to China town and had a wander about. ... read more

Me and Stu decided to get married. Mum before you have an aneurysm, it was only pretend in order to get some free show tickets! We blagged our way into a couples timeshare presentation, mainly because id heard there was fruit in the free buffet. Unless you want to eat fried stuff with cheese, Vegas is a hard place to eat healthily. We were only married for 3 hours, i wasn't that impressed. I hope my real husband wants to buy me a Vegas timeshare one day, as my pretend husband was a right tight arse! Sorry Stu :0) We celebrated our divorce in typical American style.......shooting a variety of machine and hand guns! Not before we witnessed a particularly exciting display of road range between a Mexican gardener with a pic axe and a gringo ... read more
