Ok just had an earthquake 11pm. Called Shannon to see if I should run out into the street but she said no, but if I felt that it was necessary I could hide under the desk. But guess I will blog instead. Spent all morning at urgent care center for Jim. He has a double ear infection & was miserable. Got prescriptions, meds & steroids & seemed somewhat better later today. We had lunch at baha breeze I think it is called for tacos/buritos. Yummy. Then drove down Pacific highway to Laguna beach. (That was the beach we missed last time we were in California cuz we were at emergency room cuz Jim had a double ear infection) I think I see a pattern here. Poor Jim. Flying always messes with his ears. Laguna Beach was ... read more

I made my way to La Jolla Cove to see the seals and wildlife. It was my first time to the ocean (however I did not go in it). I guess people say that there is a special smell in the area because of the seal life. I did not get that aroma but I have no sense of smell to tell you otherwise. It was nice to see seals in their natural habitat. I notice that there were scars on a few of them but there was definitely heavy scars on one of them that was beaching on a rock. Can you imagine the rough life (s)he has had so far and still managing to be around? The seal was alive, breathing, moving. But just the harm to him. A lot may be unintentional (boat ... read more

One of my first stops in SoCal was the San Diego Zoo . I love walking the zoos. I can spend my hours there, minus the African Exhibits because of my trip to Africa. San Diego Zoo also has a Safari park, which is probably more along the lines of the feeling of Africa but because, as I said, I've been to Africa, I opted not to go to the safari part. Parking was free. Admission to the zoo was $46 for 12 and older. Not that bad considering parking was free. The first exhibits I went to was the Orangutan. I did not know that they had a baby on Friday. But the mom was out with the baby already on Sunday for viewing. They looked comfortable. Momma was very protective but sharing. Another exhibit ... read more

What a journey so far. I've seen so many awe inspiring things, had some amazing conversations, but most importantly, I've done some great thinking. That's what I came here to do. This whole journey is probably still going to seem silly to me in some ways when I'm older, but who cares? I wanted to think about what I want out of my life and if I have the opportunity to do it in this manner, then isn't that pretty great? I can sit and be unhappy on my couch at home while I ruminate about what I should do with my life, or I can have some amazing experiences and accomplish the same goal. One of the most poignant things I've heard from a friend of mine about this trip is that no matter how ... read more

Danny Writes: We woke up to a scorching hot day in San Diego, California. This was by far the most typically holiday part of the holiday, since we were staying in a coastal resort hotel. The plan today was to check out SeaWorld. I wasn't really sure what to make of this initially because of the whole SeaWorld controversy, but it’s hard to make a judgement on something you've never witnessed yourself, so off we set. I don’t want to make this blog a couple of paragraphs about my take on SeaWorld so I’ll try to avoid that. The walk to SeaWorld reaffirmed what we’d already discovered about the USA in Vegas and Flagstaff; they have no pavements. We tried to walk down the ‘side walk’ but found ourselves stranded when they just suddenly stopped. We ... read more

Tina Writes: We were due to skydive this morning but I had remembered the wrong time and we were now running an hour late, so we chucked the gear in the car and floored it. This was the only hotel that came with breakfast as well and we could only grab a wee bagel each. We arrived and although late, it was no problem. We had a bit of a wait, just enough time to watch others land and to start shitting ourselves. We harnessed up and boarded the little plane. My skydive master was all but silent. Rob and Danny’s were much more talkative and as it turns out more fun during the dive. As the plane levelled out I started to get nervous. Rob jumped first, then me then Danny. The freefall was as ... read more

Day 1 was a crazy adventure. We left super early in the morning to catch the train to the airport but it would only take us so far since Dallas has a horrible bus system that is slowly expanding its destinations. My car was out of commission so we had to take this route; we did not want to bother people by catching a ride. Since it was Sunday, we could only go so far and so we took a cab the rest of the way. We flew from DFW to SAN and once we arrived we caught the Budget shuttle to the rental center where we proceeded to rent a Nissan Versa. It was a nice white car that drove well. We checked into our hotel-the Holiday Inn in Mission Beach which was newly renovated ... read more

Van daaruit hadden ... read more
