As we’ve traveled and stayed at different parks there are a few that have impressed us well enough to consider buying a lot and settling down for the winters. Riverbend RV Resort near Fort Myers was one. The second was Jojoba Hills, 15 miles east of Temecula, CA in a “town” called Aguanga. The initial draw to stay there was that it is an SKP (Escapees) park so a terrific price for a month’s stay. The park was planned and developed by a gang of Escapee volunteers who used their professional expertise, RVing experience, and muscle power to design it. They built a jewel of a mountain park (using toms of dynamite) with spacious lots all landscaped artfully using all desert plants. The clubhouse and pool, the “ranch house,” and rooms created for every interest/hobby that ... read more

On Sunday afternoon, the Association of Test Publishers Congress started. It was held at the Westin Missions Resort & Spa in Palm Springs (or in Rancho Mirage, to be exact). The congress is held once a year especially for test publishers and their (future) customers. We had submitted a paper for an oral presentation and had expected it to be the usual 20 minute time slot (as normally at such congresses). When we received the notification of acceptance, we were told that our time slot was an hour. Wow! That’s a long time. But there was a lot that we could share with our listeners. The Westin Missions Resort & Spa is a huge golf resort. There is a hotel, and there are a lot of time share apartments of various sizes. I was given a ... read more

We enjoyed another great day in Palm Springs. Weather was cool and perfect for hiking! We found many others had the same idea with lots of activity on the trails. The hike up is worth it for the enjoyment of the far reaching vistas of the Coachella Valley. Just one of the great ways to pass your time in P.S.... read more

108 degrees, which means that Palm Springs wins the hot award! After driving rather a short distance from Joshua Tree, the landscape changes from being on top of the mountains (the joshua tree only grows at high altitudes) to the valley below. The scenery is gorgeous in Palm springs, once you ignore the multitude of energy windmills as you drive in. A small one way loop system dominates the downtown area. We managed to find a hotel just around the corner and quickly parked up and got the trunks on. We were lying by the poolside having a beer when it struck us! We hadn't really seen anyone! (Had they heard we were coming?) Turns out that nobody is stupid enough to be out in the oven like temperatures of the midday sun!! We wandered downtown, ... read more

Hobo: a tramp or vagrant. Vagabond: wandering from place to place without any settled home; nomadic: a vagabond tribe. By these definitions, we’re definitely vagabonds. We turned in the keys to our house to our property manager and we officially became vagabonds at 8 AM when we left Rohnert Park in the rear-view mirror. What a totally bizarre life! While driving down I5, there were construction signs about one hundred miles out. We decided to drive through Wasco instead of getting stuck in the one-lane traffic. David’s family is from Wasco, so we went to the farm and took a couple of pictures. There were also three brand new “model homes” in the middle of nowhere which were apparently abandoned. So sad. Right now I’m sitting in a Palm Springs hotel at 10 PM. Palm Springs ... read more

Second last day of vacation. Sad to see it end. It has cooled off, in the 80s. Perfect day for a hike. We went up the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway for the hike. It is about 30 degrees cooler up there, so probably not the perfect day for a hike. We should have gone up when it was 100 so it wouldn’t have been so chilly. We wore jeans and fleece. Not enjoyable to put jeans on after 2 weeks of summer clothes. The ride up the Tram is fantastic, once you get used to the feeling of motion sickness. Ed has no trouble with it. We went up once before about 4 years ago, so I was better this time. Here’s my best pic from the ride. We were fully prepared hikers this time! 4 ... read more

Happy Cinco De Mayo. Ed and I got engaged on a beach in Monterey today 14 or 15 years ago. I’m not good at keeping track of the years. OK, so those of you who know me, know that I might occasionally embellish a story or two, but only when it is really necessary. Like at a boring family dinner, or when the conversation at a party is really dull. But this isn’t one of those situations. This story is 100% true. I woke up at 6:20am. Our room here gets light as soon as the sun comes up, so I am always awake really early. I look over at Ed, and he has his hands clasped in his golf grip and is moving his hands back and forth like he is hitting a golf ball. ... read more
