This place is a hikers dream, so many places to walk and explore. Our daughter has a condo there and we were lucky enough to be able to use it for a 3 month period. The first and most local hike to her place is the Palm Desert Cross. This is a great hike up to a large Cross, which has been erected overlooking the area and is illuminated at night. After about 1km on the Cross trail, there is a side trail, called, The Hopalong Cassidy trail ! Loved the name and decided to give it a go. This trail took you over to join the Bump track, which I will talk about later. The track was quiet narrow, but gave me some great views over the valley and towards the mountains. The Bump and ... read more

From 2009, one of many trips to the Palm Springs area for golf, shopping, and fun. While not my first choice for a vacation, it has plenty to offer. Just ask Bob Hope! Some of my friends outside the U.S. asked what is PD or PD. I told them it is an oasis of wealth in the desert, playground to the stars, golf courses on every corner, and cheap motels on every block. Fun for a visit, but I would not want to live there! 2009: When we arrived on Monday, we quickly had to turn on the AC in the room, and change to bermuda shorts. It is about 82 here, and feels even warmer. I think this would be a great place to spend the winter. Close to San Diego, Scottsdale, and Vegas. How ... read more

Geo: 33.729, -116.38Are we going to have a problem here- there goes the neighbourhood?? For two dedicated motel types, our stay at a resort in Borrego Springs was a wonderful taste of plush comfort (although we did sometimes miss the quarter slots that would start the bed vibrating), and it also allowed us to practise our table etiquette (why do I have 3 forks??) before visiting our posh friends, Don & Jill T, in a land mine-surrounded, gated community in Palm Desert. As loyal blog readers may recall, Don had us (and our campervan) unceremoniously removed from the parking lot of a 5 star hotel in South Africa in order to maintain the tone of the property. To explain our presence in Palm Desert, I think Don has told the neighbours that he's bringing in a ... read more

Well!!! Sorry everyone haven't done our blog for a few days, tooooo! busy shopping!! Left Vancouver on the 12th 11.00a.m. and met up with Suzy and Blake at John Wayne Airport around 2.30p.m. and got our hire cars and drove on down to Palm Springs and Palm Desert (about a 2 1/2 hr drive from John Wayne) arriving about 5.00p.m. 41C in the shade whooh!!! but a nice dry heat, every day has been the same since we arrived. Staying at the Desert Springs (Marriott) Villas, they are just fantastic, looking out over the green golf course is just so refreshing, when everything else around you is just arid and dry and desert. We each have our own villa and they are so spacious and well equipped, home away from home, had the washer and dryer ... read more

We’re enclosing these pictures of Emerald Desert RV Resort for our own records. This RV park, like all the residential areas here is a gated community. We’ve been to so many places that it’s beginning to feel like “If it’s Tuesday, it must be Belgium.” Lindsay has been booking us at 10/10/10 (out of 10) RV resorts, which usually have paved streets, nice landscaping and lots of amenities. It’s easy to get spoiled. We are definitely off-season as we were the only ones in either of the two pools or spas. It’s still too hot here (over 90 degrees) for the snowbirds, who will start arriving on November 1st.... read more

April 14, 2012 This weekend was to mark the first of several training hikes in preparation for the Mount Whitney summit in July. A group of eight was to meet at the trail head, somewhere an hour west of Indio, California. Our intended hike was to take us to Tahquitz Peak (8,828 ft) with a possible side trip to Red Tahquitz Peak. The elevation gain would be 2,400 ft with a round trip distance of about 8.5 miles. Kyla and I were both eager for this major ass-kicking hike. The day before, a storm blew into the Southwest. From San Diego to Las Vegas, rain poured at the lower elevations and snow dumped on the mountains. Many of the group backed out, but Kyla and I were “tough” Washington girls who could make it in cold ... read more

On Sept 29, 2011 I began my day at 6:30AM at DFW for my international flight to Shannon, Ireland. As was well, even the delay at ATL was bearable. On the ATL-JFK flight I felt something itching the tops of my feet. I was wearing loafers (no socks). When we landed at JFK, I had no time to look at my feet, as we were running late and my connection was already boarding on the other side of the airport. When I got on to the plane I finally looked at my feet, which were now extremely swollen and covered in bites. I immediately reported it to the head flight attendant, and told her plane should be fumigeted. She agreed and reported the incident to the Captain. A DELTA ground staff member was called. He was ... read more

What a trip! Carolyn's home and Pat and Ginger still have one more day of travel to reach their homes (8 hr). We missed the Albuquerqe Balloon Festival due to the rainy weather. We were able to see the sights along the way from Okalhoma, New Mexico, to Arizona. Our last hotel stay was in Verde, Arizona where we had a beautiful hotel stay WITH A CASINO right next door via shuttle! We made our money back from the night before..Whew! Drove from Arizona back to Palm Desert. Safe and Sound! You must try this trip or one similar with your older siblings..It might be the last chance to be together. We are so thankful and love each other dearly. Once and a lifetime trip for us three sisters. Thanks for the memories!! ... read more

Palm Desert, California A Desert Oasis Leaving the vulgarities of winter behind us, we anticipated a week’s stay in California’s Desert Region. At the floor of the Coachella Valley, nestled between the San Jacinto and the Little San Bernardino Mountains, lies eight resort cities strung together to form the Greater Palm Springs Area. These interesting locations include Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Indio, and La Quinta. We chose a home destination of Palm Desert, mostly because of the resorts we selected, but also for the central location amongst the resort areas. We are not retirees with the luxury of time at our doorstep, but a couple of very busy executives in our early 40’s with three kids and a mortgage. We left the kiddies at home for this one and had a goal ... read more
