"Ok, so that is 10 socks, 12 shirts, wait, did I pack this?" "What else do I need again?" "Oh, I need a camera, fanny pack, and...now I officially am an Asian tourist..." I am going to be an Asian tourist in an Asian country. Ha! The problem was I had scribbled down everything I needed for a 2.5 week trip that I couldn't read my own writing. Penmanship isn't my forte, and my mom would have been proud if I had been a doctor, I mean I have the writing down for a doctor at least. The weather in Bali is atrocious, scattered rain/thunderstorms with high humidity for the entire duration I am there...YUP! You read that right, the island where I am staying where is known for its beaches and resorts has a forecast ... read more

so i have been back in the USA for 1 month...well about a month. and i have been meaning to write a blog about the last adventure i had before heading back to the usa. well it was an unexpected adventure. i was supposed to leave prague on the 14th. and that day i left the hostel and got to the airport. since i am the biggest worry wart in the world, i got there way too early. that was ok. i sat around, bought some souvenirs etc. well finally when we were supposed to board the plane...on the loud speaker i heard that because it was foggy in london, we wouldnt be able to land there, so we couldnt leave yet....now panic began to set in. i was supposed to have a 1 hour lay ... read more

And so the traveling starts... we are not certain on our futures just as of now as we gallop off into the night Oh, well, we're not exactly "roughing it." A uniformed limo driver (faaancy!) came to collect us well before dawn as the rentals were celebrating a friend's birthday in Collingwood. Alas, the GPS is still sitting in the driveway, but thankfully that seems to be the only thing we forgot. The flight felt like half an hour, I slept comfortably as George watched movies (Air Canada has really spruced themselves up!) and soon we were peering curiously out the window at odd canyons and windy rivers dotted with totally isolated settlements. Then LA emerged from the desert, sprawling and stretching as far as it could. The flight over LA itself was 20 minutes! ... read more

Time for some R and R. The last 5 weeks have been very hectic and it has taken us a couple of days to get over our trip....I don't know what it's going to be like after a year! Great catching up with my cousin and his family. We don't see each other too often since he's been living in the States for the last 26 years. Fantastic meeting up with Lani again and catching up on all the goss. We haven't seen her since May so it was nice to hear about all her 'Summer Camp' experiences. This gal seems to fall on her feet. She was at a camp where the kids were only there M-F, 9-5. She started work at 11 each day, had evenings and weekends off, had accomodation and all meals ... read more

Well this is my first blog and I can't believe the trip that I've been talking about for a year is finally here! It's almost surreal, actually. I think that I finally have everything I need, now it's just an issue of packing it all up. It's still weird to think that I won't be in the country for four months, but I know that I am going to learn so much from my experience there. I'm excited to just simply be in the city and learn how Russians live. Russia is such a different world and I look forward to the affect it's going to have on me. It's going to be life changing and I can't wait to see how this journey affects my future goals and dreams. I am going to miss everybody, ... read more

Well, about 3 days from my departure to NYC and then Italy and i STILL have not recieved my student visa from the italian consulate. That is not good. My mom and I have been emailing/calling them like frenzied idiots but I doubt that is going to make things much better. Basically today and tomorrow are the only days we have for this damn thing to show up in my mailbox. Let us keep our fingers crossed? I found out about my host family and have been chatting with them a bit through email. Heres the basics. Theres Annalisa (my host mother) that I have been mostly communicating with, really really sweet lady. Her Husband Luigi (amazing i know), a doctor. (how convenient) Their 3 sons: Giorgio (18.5 yrs), Giacomo(17yrs) and Giovanni (8 yrs) and 1 ... read more

Alrighty, so tonight (or really the wee hours of tomorrow morning) is the big moment! The moment where I have to step onto a big airplane and set off on the biggest journey of my life! For the time being at least. In a half an hour, my good friends Lyd, Dave and me are going to pile in Lyd's jeep to go to LAX and that's it . . . I'm off. I'm nervous, excited, happy, sad, and so many other emotions I don't know how to classify extactly but I expected to feel this way. So I leave LAX at 1:40am with a 13 hour plane flight ahead of me. After I get into Beijing @ 5:20am on September 15 their time (that's 2:40pm west coast time) that's when the adventure will really begin. ... read more

Visiting Joy's familyMichael Laneurl='/Videos/3783.html' onclick='dialog("/Videos/3783.html?popped=1","tbvideo",600,600);return false;'Aldrich Park So, here I sit in my apartment in Irvine, anxiously ready to go abroad. I look at my map often, surf the web to find places I want to visit and ways to do it cheap and I REALLY WANT TO BE GONE NOW. However, before I leave for England in 11 days, I am visiting my sister Joy for a couple days in San Luis Obispo. Joy (her husband calls her by her first name, but that's his business, she will always be Joy to me) is stationed with her Airforce spouse, Jesse, in Japan. They are flying in to California today and I'm visiting them at Jesse's brother's house in SLO next week. It will be wonderful to see my Sister and especially my niece and nephew. ... read more
