My friends, I am a month and one day away from boarding my flight to begin my amazing adventure. First let me take this moment to thank everyone who made this possible. I feel so blessed to be in a community where artists are appreciated and supported. It is that kind of selfless support that advances the arts and encourages young artists like myself to affect the world around me. I am truly grateful. Please be patient as I tinker with the website and try to figure everything out. It shouldn't take long before I am a super technologically savvy blogger. For now, friends, I wait. I am picking out my repertoire, scheduling appointments to take care of last minute things, buying my railpass, checking out hostels, contacting friends in Europe, and anxiously awaiting my departure! ... read more

Ok, I've logged in from a different computer so that is another hurdle that I've conquered. I don't have any photos to try to add from here, but that will just have to be the next hurdle. My students are finishing up their finals in Math. I have been teaching Special Education for 26 years. The past six years, I've taught Special Ed Math at Ironwood Ridge High School in Tucson, AZ. With my "extra right hand," Kris, we have maybe helped the kids learn some math concepts. At least we try!! I have enjoyed teaching except for some of the paperwork, headaches & bologna that is brought on by the administration. I picked up Euros from the bank, made copies of my credit cards and passport, and have a couple of suitcases packed. I am ... read more

This trip has been in the planning for about a year. It is a celebration of friendships that have lasted and lasted. We are a group of grade school, high school & college buddies in our sixties that still enjoy getting together as often as possible and partying hearty for as long as we can. It started with 16 of us but 2 couples had to cancel. We will fly to Rome, transfer to Civitavecchia, Italy to board the Grand Princess on May 26 for a 12 day cruise ending in Southampton, England with transfers into London with wonderful stops along the way. Some of us are going early and staying later but, on the ship, we will be together. The cast of characters: Tom and Linda, Steve and Linda, Deanie and Bob, Vicki and John, ... read more

Well, we finally arrived in Tucson on May 14th, only 6 days behind the original schedule! How is that for planning? Tucson was planned as a two day stop including the lovingly-curated Pima Air Museum and the Boneyard at Davis Monthan AFB. We arrived at the day's final destination around 3 pm, positively buzzed by the aerial views as well as the Flagstaff visit. This was where the hospitality was fantastic. Nancy Blackwell, former club member, and two other people (Jim, a friend of Nancy's husband Jimmy Blackwell, and former club president Frank Z) met us at the airport about 4 pm and took us straight to Lil' Abner's Steakhouse, for which Bob Hawkins had been pining since his last visit forty years before! It lived up to its excellent reputation undiminished. Nancy hosted the C2C ... read more

Approaching the Grand Canyon: First Aerial Look This was leg was to be the LONG-anticipated aerial tour of the Grand Canyon by way of one of the special flight corridors over Grand Canyon National Park. Ruth and Bob Hawkins opined that "Flagstaff"and "Tucson" would be optimistic for today -- and their optimism was rewarded. After losing two days in Tennessee having to wait to replace a starter in one of the airplanes, and then by weather in Arkansas, their skepticism was understandable. The plan had been to fly from Page to Flagstaff to see some extraordinary but unspecified sights, airplane or other, in someone's hangar before going to Tucson. We chose the easternmost flight corridor, since it was most direct and provided the longest flight path over the actual canyon. Launching from Page, we made our ... read more

Its been bothering me that I abandoned the blog towards the end of my trip to Europe last summer. I just got tired of making time every night to write the blogs and I didn't think anyone was reading them anyways. So I'm just gonna put some pictures from my last couple days in Europe: the rest of Amsterdam, a train-stop in Brussels, and Paris. I didn't want anyone who randomly stumbles across these blogs to think I became part of the seedy Amsterdam underworld or took some bad mushrooms and am wandering Dutch tulip fields naked. Even though this brings a sort of closure to my trip, the experience has only magnified my desire to travel and explore exponentially (Japan in July!!!). I got the bug bad...and if there's a cure, I'll pass. Have fun, ... read more

Well, here goes. My first blog!! Two weeks until I fly out of Phoenix and head to Rome. I want to practice a couple of blogs before I head for the high seas and try posting from random places. Hope this all works and everyone enjoys or at least tolerates my posts. I sure do hope that I have enough computers skills to do this all with ease. I want to be able to add photos and witty comments and let everyone know just what is going on. I also hope I take the time to get r done!! It will be a fun-filled 2 weeks in 2 weeks from now. Stay tuned for more.... read more

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Today we spent the day touring this wonderful facility. We arrived early in the morning to beat the heat. The animals are supposed to be more active earlier and later in the day, and less active during the hottest part of the day. We started with an orientation tour conducted by a docent. It gave us a lot of good information and helped us to figure out what we wanted to do later. The orientation tour lasted about an hour. Then we toured until lunch time and headed back to our campground a few miles away. It was convenient to go home for lunch and see our dogs, then return later in the afternoon to see more of the facility. The brochure states “The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is a world-renowned zoo, natural ... read more

Chapter 9 Alamos, Sonora, Mexico to Silver City, New Mexico, USA Photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/Ches.Alli/Chapter9AlamosToUSA When we left you at the end of Chapter 8 we were in Alamos, Sonora. We ended up staying there for nine days and, as usual, we became quite accustomed to our campground and the small town of Alamos. We had several good friends in a short time and felt quite at home. Besides the short termers, such as ourselves, we enjoyed the company of the folks who come down every winter and stay at the Rancho Acosta and they of course knew the area much better and were a big help in showing us where to go and what to do. Alamos as we described before is in the foot hills of the Sierra Madre mountains and is very dry in the ... read more
