Howdy. Another boring post while we're still in the US. The main reason for these posts is to make sure that I know how to use this blog before we go. Something tells me that once we get to Mozambique I'll be uploading on a cruddy connection and won't want to be figuring out how to create blog posts in that environment. Right now I'm making preparations to print photos for some of the people we're working with. I've purchased a Epson Picture Mate Dash 260, which is a cool little photo editor/printer that you can use to print 4x6 photos directly from your camera. It has a battery pack, but you've got to be able to recharge it. Hmm, reasonably sure I don't want to accidentally fry it with Mozambican 240V electricity. Need to look ... read more

Okay, so Tucker and I are getting our blog started here. The idea is to keep everyone posted about what's going on for our Mozambique trip, July 12-Aug 6 2008. We'll be working in orphanages in and around Mozambique. So far: started to listen to Portuguese CDs; sorted clothes and created hygiene kits to take to the orphanages where we'll be working; looked on the internet to find out what diseases we might be in contact with (um, there's a lot and they all involve festering something or other); printed out Portuguese primary songs for use in sharing time in the two Beira branches where we'll be attending church. On tap for this week: figuring out and getting vaccinations and malaria medicine. Please note and be impressed by the extraordinarily tough-looking photo, which includes a handlebar ... read more

I know, the suspense is killing you. You have really, really wanted to know who this person is who has decided to grace the pages of this wonderful travel blog site with his experiences. Well here ya go: So, like I said before, I'm 34. I'm a Registered Nurse although I no longer do patient care (those people are sick and have bodily fluid discharges). My clinical background was ICU, ED, Pediatric ED and a little Pediatric Psych thrown in for good measure. My leadership (uh oh, I drank the Koolaid... I should have said management) experience included Critical Care, ED and Nursing Administration. I work for an amazing company (truly, they are amazing) that allows me the opportunity to travel full time as a consultant. I love the travel aspect of my job. Like I ... read more

I’m starting this entry on Thursday and we are set to fly out tomorrow at 6 p.m. So today I will pick up from our last entry and catch you up on what we’ve been doing while here in the Phoenix area. We’ve been winding down, but not completely, so we still have a few stories to tell . . . We used Sunday as a day to rest, relax, and recharge our batteries. That evening we joined Uncle Bob, Aunt Joan, Karen, and Kelly at a Tuscan restaurant called Sassi’s to celebrate Aunt Joan’s birthday. It was a beautiful place with Old World style surrounded by views of the desert and nearby Pinnacle Peak. We had a great time visiting over three courses of delicious Italian dishes. That takes us to Monday, when we ... read more
