In the middle of the night I woke up feeling sick….I think its something I ate. Needless to say, I didn’t get much sleep. Feel a little better this morning. Had my latte and nothing else. Ken ate cheerios. We took our time packing up. We only have 125 miles to travel today to get to Lake Powell. We will definitely come back here. A great place to come to get out of the hot Tucson summer. We didn’t see the buffalo on the way out. A deer ran in front of our car; a few seconds different in timing and we would have hit him. Listening to ‘Summer Wind’ by Frank Sinatra. Love it! When I listen to him, I sometimes still can’t believe he is dead. The drive to Lake Powell is so gorgeous. ... read more

We began a 7 day houseboat trip on March 19 on Lake Powell in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. I was looking forward to this trip because the plans were to spend the majority of the time in the Escalante arm, an area of the lake I'd never seen. We camped the first night near the "Cookie Jar" formation in Padre Bay, then three nights in Willow Creek in Escalante, one night in Oak Canyon and the last night back in Padre Bay. We used a smaller motorboat for lots of side canyon exploring. We enjoyed beautiful weather with the exception of one windy cold night. On one particularly calm gorgeous night, we were in awe of the stars' reflections in the lake. The reflections were so vivid that we could easily pick out constellations in ... read more

We've looked forward to today. Today we enjoy a morning boat ride on Lake Powell. We opted for the Navajo tapestry tour. This tour covers Navajo Canyon and Antelope Canyon. The rock formation that looks like a tapestry is our destination on Navajo Canyon. The narrow lake passageway is Antelope Canyon. In the afternoon we'll head on down to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. There we'll enjoy the sunset of the canyon.... read more

So then a 5am start and watching the sunrise over the Grand Canyon.... complete contrast to yesterday which was HOT, this morning it was COLD (with a capital C)... Clare is whittering in my ear that it was "bl00dy freezin' " - no language for a lady I know! The sunrise was nice, but the Canyon still appeared a little washed out... still got us up early, quick brekkie in the canteen and then off to drive the desert view exit out of GC! This has to be the route with the most impressive views of the Grand Canyon... totally different perspective to the views we were getting yesterday... much more of a sense of scale of the place and also gave views of the colorado river and rapids (talking of views we have already taken ... read more

We woke as normal and packed the trailer ready for our relatively short trip to a place called Lake Powell. We first stopped at a small Navajo market which was located just off the side of the road but in the middle of nowhere. We looked through the small stores full of hand made weapons and jewelry. I ended up buying a wristband made from dried seeds, I also was looking for something to send home but most of it was quite delicate so I didn’t bother. We got back into the van and continued on. Our next stop was another lookout point which overlooked a windy canyon with a windy river at the bottom, it was another awesome view. We took some photos then headed back to the van and on our way. We soon ... read more

August 18-20st We arrived at Lake Powell on August 18th after a 4-hour drive from Bryce. The trip was fairly uneventful. We passed right by Zion and I mentioned to Joe that maybe we should add that to our trip. Although we are having an amazing time, I think all of us are looking forward to some routine when we land at our new home. We are staying at the Wahweap RV Park at Lake Powell. I learned that Wahweap is a kind of stone…thus, the name. This RV Park is part of the larger Lake Powell Resort, and we able to use the pool and all the other amenities here. We rented a pontoon during our visit to Lake Powell. Considering we have essentially spent 2 days on the lake, I will just make more ... read more

Visited Monument Valley a few days ago. Baking temperatures but enjoyed a hair raising jeep tour with a Navajo Indian - Willie from the Redbottom tribe (only realised the pun a few days ago!). Anyway, we went on this awesome tour and saw some amazing monuments. Willie was a great guide and we were able to get out of the jeep to hike on some of the Mesa's where we saw cool arches and circles. I say hike, it was more like bouldering and I definitely took my life in my own hands a few times. Could have done with a harness and some rope! We also saw some examples of cliff dwellings and some paintings on the walls which date back thousands of years. In the evening we watched the sunset and then camped out ... read more
