Hello from Talkeetna (population of 700) We haven't had access to internet for the last 9 days due to being on a train and cruise, well we did have access on the cruise but not for 75 us cents per minute !!! Thanks for your text messages asking for our latest travel blog... We finished our time in Canada by driving from Jasper onto Lake Louise, the famous Lake on all the travel shows. We spent the night at the chateau with a lake view room, the lake was frozen but still beautiful. This has to be one of the most popular destinations in Western Canada and there were bus loads of tourists just turning up to see the lake. Most of the lakes we had visited were frozen which was a bit disappointing but you ... read more

One very interesting spot along the way, was the Hurricane Gulch Bridge. The bridge is 550 feet long and stands 260 feet above the creek below. It was a long way down as we stood on the span and gazed at the small creek meandering it’s way through the gulch. We passed a tragic scene along this highway. A motorcycle lie off to the side of the road and a blanket covered the driver. How sad that some family will soon get that dreaded phone call. God bless them. We took a side trip to Talkeetna, an old-time small Alaska town that has ... read more

We left The Parks Highway and went up the Talkeetna spur. The day was mostly clear with only a few clouds. As the road curved, we kept getting glimpses of a large snow covered mountain. They say the odds of actually seeing Mt McKinley is 25-30%. We’ve heard that people see parts of it as the clouds move, but not all of it. As we approached Talkeetna there was a scenic pull-off. There we could see that indeed the Alaska range was in view and there was Mt Foraker, Mt Hunter, and Mt McKinley. There were some small clouds obscuring parts, but we were feeling fortunate to see the mountains so clearly. The highlight of our time in Talkeetna was going flight-seeing to Mt McKinley. We had wanted to land on a glacier, but the conditions ... read more
