I ended my vacation in Belize at Cancun. I took the bus from Belize City back to Cancun. Since my rear was sunburned it was a bit of an uncomfortable ride, even though the bus was similar in comfort to a Greyhound. It was a very long day to say the least. I decided that all of my activities in Cancun for the next day would involve walking and taking photographs. I was quite surprised to see Plant Hollywood in Cancun. The hotels were in every style I could imagine. Cancun is very touristy. I toured some of the markets, everyone wanted me to buy their wares. I viewed an art gallery which had some interesting and colorful art. My last night in Cancun, I ate dinner at Pat O'Briens. The music was festive, I sat ... read more

I switch off my computer. Rain drops are falling and going down my window. I remember the orange lights of the streets, in the small mountain town in Mexico. Two small girls walk along the wall, small black silhouettes with black hair, on the background of this luminous wall. The computer emits a final noise before its definitive extinction. The sun had set exactly behind the small church illuminated for New Year's Day. Her laughing eyes had led me on the roof of the church, where the sun was disappearing in silence. She looked at the horizon and her small chest seemed to do likewise. The old Indians placed under the porch of the churches became quiet shapes. The tortured façade of the church, its statues hidden in the shade, seemed to disappear in the past, ... read more

When I was around 12 years old, my parents had taken my brother and I on our first plane ride trip ever. They had decided on Cancun Mexico. We stayed at the Oasis Resort, which had BEAUTIFUL sparkling pools which surrounded the hotel like a moat. I also remember the peacocks and iguanas free to roam the grounds as the guests just went about their day. They had many activities to help you enjoy your stay, such as water aerobics, volleyball, and the swim up bar, which made frozen virgin drinks so even kids could take advantage of the tropical treats (Hey, we were 10 & 12 at the time!), and also hair brading. They had little shows that took place at nighttime, we went to a couple of those, and in the morning we would ... read more

Chichen Itza is a pre-Columbian city built by the Mayas. Its name means "at the mouth of the well of the itza". The earliest artifacts date from 1-250 AD. It's not known why it was abandoned around 1300 AD, left silent in the Yucatan Jungle. ... read more

San Diego and Tijuana are effectively the same urban sprawl, except that there happens to be a border running in between them. We got a tram to the border crossing - the busiest in the world - and then after going through two turnstiles, we were in Mexico. It was like we had suddenly gone back two hundred years. After the plush buildings and flash cars of San Diego, everywhere was old, run-down and primitive. You couldn't believe that two turnstiles could make such a difference. Tijuana is basically a tourist town and its very existence appeared to be based on people coming across the border for a bit of shopping. I could understand why, the shopping was fantastic, certainly compared to the tacky crap that dominated across the border. I got a fantastic ceramic chess ... read more
