We are up early to catch the bus back to Los Mochis. We wait with our bags at the front of the hotel as advised by the hotel manager yesterday. Sure enough, after ten minutes a minibus turns up, sees us and stops. The driver even comes out to carry my bag across the street to stow in the back. Unbelievably, there is another man waiting at the corner - it must be about 10 paces away from us...does he walk over? No. He waits till we are onboard, the bus then crawls a few metres up the road and opens its door for the man to board. OK, we are on our way...well at least for a few metres or so as the pattern is repeated with people being picked up every few yards down ... read more

Sorry for not posting for a few days but the internet is becoming increasingly difficult to find the farther down we travel. we passed through mex city today and are currently in a small town on the outskirts of oaxaca. I am going to start with day 3 and catch up within the next few days. We are hoping to cross into Guatamala tomorrow so stay tuned. Also, I cant upload photos right now but will shortly. And I have some good ones! Day 3 Today has been our most hectic day yet. We ended up breaking almost every mexico travel rule in the books. It all started innocently enough. We were passing through Mazatlan minding our own business and looking for Mexico Highway 15 when we spotted blue flashing lights behind us. We were about ... read more

Day 3 Well, we decided to deviate from our planned course...again. Originally we wanted to make it to Mazatlan today, but we slept in and would have never made it in time to watch Kobe and his pack do it again. So we're spending the night in Los Mochis which puts us about 5 1/2 hours behind schedule. But that's ok because Los Mochis has turned out to be a fun stop for us, and we'll just drive a little farther for the next few days. We made it into town just in time for the tip-off and found this great outdoor bar to watch the game. I had a plate of three delicious fish tacos with avocado and all the fixings for...$3.60USD. Unbelievable. This same plate would go for at least $12 in the states. ... read more

The railway trip from Creel to Los Mochis was absolutely fantastic. OK so it´s not the Grand Canyon but I am happy to say that this time I wasn´t feeling under the weather and I was able to appreciate every moment of it. Like the Grand Canyon though it was overwhelmingly beautiful and travelling by rail was a wonderful way to fully appreciate the changes in the scenery as we descended from 2,500m down to 120m. The train would snake into and around countless mountains (actually I say countless but I´m sure there are figures out there) through scenery that seemed to change with every bend with each appearing to have its own ecosystem happening. We went from pine trees in the mountains, to papaya and banana trees right down to cacti the size of trees ... read more

It was an icy cold morning as we boarded the firt class Copper Canyon train. The conductors were beautifully dressed with the traditional square hats. We found ourselves seated in the emergency seats on the left side of the train. We had asked for the left side (for the best view) when we booked but thought we only got right side seats so were pleasantly surprised. Opposite us were a Mexican couple and in the carriage were a few other Mexicans, a group of French tourists and a group of American tourists (Gerard's group - see the previous blog). Both groups had guides who launched into guide mode. The leader of the American group was particulary loud and quite patronising but the old Americans just smiled and laughed as he talked slowly and repeated himself constantly. ... read more
