So Jeff and I set off, blissfully unemployed and homeless, to Vanessa Manzano's wedding to Ty Zenter. We arrived after a red eye flight to Cancun via a layover in Mexico City with no sleep, no job, and no home! Vanessa's wedding in Cancun was going to be our first stop off in our 10 month layover! After a 2 hour drive to Playa Carmen we arrived at the gorgeous Grand Occidental Xcaret ALL INCLUSIVE resort. We went straight to the pool and stayed there for the next 3 days! The joy of an all inclusive is that you get to eat and drink as much as you want and $1 bills always get you some extra alcohol in that drink! The resort was beautiful and Jeff and I had a great room overlooking the tropical ... read more

Sonntag, 20.

Well our Mayan Adventure has finally come to an end. We have made some great friends along the way, and our group leader, Martin, did a fantastic job getting us safely through 3 countries in the last 22 days. Our final stop was the Mexican tourist town of Playa del Carmen. This place looks to be built for the thousands of American tourists who jump of a cruise boat, buy some souvineers, then tell all their friends they have seen Mexico. Unfortunatley we haven´t been SCUBA diving yet. We were both recovering from a cold in Belize, and after booking our trip here, we had all our gear on, tanks prepped, then the harbour master cancelled all boat launches due to rough weather, bummer! It is a fun town though. Last night we vwent to a ... read more

Ok, a little status update. I've been in Playa del Carmen for about 6-7 weeks now, although it feels a lot shorter. It took me almost two weeks to find a job and at the end I had almost given up on Mexico. But eventually I got lucky and walked into a dive shop the day after one of their instructors had quit. So I got a job freelancing in this relatively small dive shop, Diversity Diving, owned by a dutchman, Carlos. Being low season, there wasn't too much to do, only working every other day, on average, which isn't quite enough to make a living. However, things picked up in Semana Santa, a few days of me working 12 hour days which is good for the wallet. And an American family tipping me 220 USD ... read more
