Mexico City a quick stopover on the way to Mickey We arrived late in Mexico city after yet another very comfortable, and unfortunately, last bus trip in Mexico. They saved the best for last (if you ask Dillon) as he was very excited when 5 minutes before the bus left the Dominoes delivery man (no kidding) came into the bus to sell Pizzas. Being the good parents we are (and because we wanted him to be quiet) he was munching on a fresh pepperoni Pizza in no time. It was dark by the time we left our new hotel and we headed for the central plaza which adorns the huge cathedral. There we saw one of the natural spectacles of Mexico. A demonstration. Op donderdag hadden we een relaxdag. We moesten kleren wassen en voornamelijk uitrusten van een aantal zware dagen. Dus hebben we uitgeslapen. In de middag ben ik nog naar een museum gegaan dat in de buurt was, en daar heb ik vooral genoten van de architectuur. Het gebouw was vanbinnen helemaal in de art deco stijl ingericht en ze hadden overal passende muziek wat ongewoon is voor een museum. Daarnaast hadden ze vooral veel muurschilderingen, waaronder een van Diego Rivera. Die muurschildering was zo aanstootgevend dat hij ervoor uit de Verenigde Staten werd gezet. Ik kon alleen maar genieten van de prachtige schildering. Daarna hadden we een Thanksgiving diner waar we voor uitgenodigd waren. November has started with a little jaunt to Guatemala, via Mexico City. We had an extra day off for Day of the Dead, and I decided to make the most of it in Mexico city. I arrived on a night bus at 3am, and was a little dusty round the edges to say the least! I lazed around in the coach station whilst using coffee shop WiFi or reading until about 6:30am. I then went in search of the Zocalo, which is a city square filled with architecture, shops, restaurants, etc that's in every Mexican city or even the little towns. So the next trip is only 10 days away! I'm not sure where the time has gone, but I thought it must be time to update you all on the travel plans, and bring my blog back to life after a few years rest :) Next stop: Mexico city for 3 nights. After that? No plans! Jess and I are finally planning a trip together, after travelling together a couple of times in Asia. We do have a lot on the ideas list for this trip, but we will fill in the gaps and plan more of a route as we go along, leaving maximum flexibility for our travels, which is just how we like it. HE SAID... Today we were leaving Mazunte and travelling northwest to Mexico City. We woke early, as we had to carry our packs up the steep zig-zagging path to our hotel’s restaurant (La Fragata). We arrived exhausted, as the humidity (even at 8am) was debilitating, especially when you were required to exert energy. We dropped our packs, settled at a table overlooking the Pacific Coast and ordered breakfast. I opted for yoghurt and granola, while Ren had a sandwich de jamon y queso (ham and cheese sandwich). We refreshed with banana and melon liquados (smoothies). We checked out around 9:30am, bid farewell to our marvellous beachside retreat (Altamira Mazunte Bungalows) and spent the next 60 minutes bumping along Oaxaca’s narrow coastal roads on our way to Huatulco International Airport.
