Day 5! Last day in Toronto! We spent it going to the zoo, which was actually a long bus ride out there. At least we saw polar bears! Later on we went out and had a night in the town with Dan and Dee, our hostel mates. We stayed up pretty late. I take an early flight out to New York City early in the morning while Tony will stay in Toronto a day by himself and then fly home. It’s been fun thus far!... read more

Day 4! After a few freak-outs I think I am starting to grow fond of our crappy hostel. Its got character plus its cheap and serviceable. I only wish it had some AC! Today's activities included an outing at the Royal Ontario Museum to see mummies, fossils, and artifacts and then a quick spur of the moment jaunt to the Toronto Islands. The Royal Ontario Museum (or ROM for short) is a nifty place. I especially enjoyed the Egyptian section with a cat mummy. I want to mummify my cats now and throw a grand funeral for them. They are definitely worth it! There were also fossils everywhere and a mirror I especially liked for some reason. My only problem is that we went though it too quick. Oh and this kid kept trying to fight ... read more

Gay Pride Parade I can really feel the heat of summer. I can feel a lot of sweat trickle down my whole body. Is it hot in here or is it just the hotties on parade? We weaseled ourselves into the crowded streets in Yonge for the Gay Pride Parade which was on its 25th year (please correct me if I'm wrong). There were gay people, gay couples, friends and families of gay people who were marching the streets of Toronto... either half-naked, naked-in-rollerblades, top naked, bottom half-naked and what not. Naked people are everywhere and I guess some of the spectators got carried away too. I smell like I've have not taken a bath in weeks and I got roasted in the sun to take silly pictures of naked gay people I don't know! What ... read more

Day 3 After a sweltering night at the hostel we decided to head on over to Casa Loma. It’s a great place to go. Lots of rooms and antiques and its great fun to just walk around and pretend you could actually live there (Hmmm this would TOTALLY be my cat relaxation room!) The grounds were just as impressive. Toronto is a nice city to vacation in. Already I am starting to get a feel for the subway but the food still hasn't arrived. I keep thinking I will find Canadian cuisine but I don't think it exists! So far the slices of pizza and the sandwich wraps are what has kept us going. Later that day we headed to the CN Tower in downtown Toronto. It is TALL! It easily dominates the skyline and after ... read more

Today we left the province of Quebec and continued along the St Lawrence River Valley to Toronto. We stopped along the way to take a boat cruise along through 1000 Island District. We saw the famous Boldt Castle which originally had a bowling alley, hotel and all sorts of other extravagant things in it!! We also saw the world’s shortest international bridge which looked about 4 metres long and it joins two islands, one which is on the US side and the other on the Canadian side. The houses throughout the Island are elaborate and the private islands range from having a backyard of stone to forest. Went to the Big Apple - which I have to tell you has nothing on the Big Banana. They have a tribute inside the restaurant to big fruit and ... read more

All my bags are packed (pretty much) I'm ready to go (almost) I'm typing here inside my door I hate to let you know I'm saying bye. All right, enough cheesiness. It's been a LONG year, it's been a good year, and in many ways, it's been a growing up year (although I wish the growth was a physical one as well as an emotional one). After the craziness of the last few weeks, I'm looking forward to the semi-controlled chaos that is South-East Asia, and seeing if UBC was wrong about my rural suitability. ;-) I'm typing this on the eve of my departure early tomorrow morning, so I wish you all good adventures this summer wherever you may be. I'll be sure to remember to drink bottled water, remember to open my eyes, and ... read more
