Tuesday 4.5.2010 day 202 Niagara Falls Niagara Falls was so exciting. To get there we drove along some fantastic country roads and alongside Lake Ontario. From the first minute that I first saw the falls they made me feel energised it was very cool having all the spray wash over me. It is the second largest waterfall in the world. I would love to see the largest now. I cannot believe that the fall froze over totally in 1911. The first person to go over the falls in a barrel and survive was a 63 year old female school teacher. The falls is one of the most romantic places in earth with lots of people getting engaged and honeymooning there every year. As I got no romance there I do not think I will ever get ... read more

We had two huge KOA campgrounds in a row. In Port Huron we ate dinner at the Angry Bill and then rented a 4 person bike to cruise around in. Brendan drove like he was in Mario Kart. Then it was across the border where we were searched and had to go through immigration (not like the last time). Went to Niagara falls after dinner and Brendan and I went into the haunted house. Very dark and scary.... read more

Trying to Get Some Wind! Sunday, 5 August 2007 After yesterday’s near-waste of the day (I probably COULD have gone on the bicycle, as traffic had been no worse than what I’ve already seen), I really wanted to bicycle today. So I asked Bob to drop Silver & me off at the plaza mentioned in the previous journal. That way I could avoid having to begin the ride with a long hill (something I try not to do), and he & Panna could go for a walk along the nicer of the two trails suggested to us. Then, about 4 hours later he could come down the highway & pick me up. And so I began what was a pretty uneventful ride. About the only source of difficulty, besides the hills, was the wind. Again it ... read more

On Foot Saturday, 4 August 2007 We had been told by Mary that the traffic on Highway 71 on Saturdays was pretty hectic, as Saturday is traditionally the day that week-long cottage stays end or begin, so we decided I should avoid bicycling today. Bob had laundry to do, plus I wanted to get some groceries and some more wine and/or cider. Fortunately there was a small shopping plaza nearby that made all of the above possible. While he started the laundry I took Panna, and we went for a walk along one of two trails recommended to us by Mary. It started about ½ kilometre from the plaza, and there were some moderately informative maps available at the entrance. We pretty much followed the path indicated, which was also well-marked by signs on the trees. ... read more

A Shorter Ride to Lakeview Friday, 3 August 2007 Today was another moving day, so we all “jumped” into Casper (after Bob loaded everything into the van) & drove together to the place where Bob had picked me up yesterday. There he dropped off Silver & me, so that we could cycle to Lakeview Lodge, our next destination, near Nestor Falls. We didn’t know exactly where it was, but most of these sorts of places have signs on the highway indicating where they are, so I wasn’t particularly worried as to our chances of finding it; the question was whether or not we would find it within my 60-kilometer limit. If it was located much past the town of Nestor Falls, it could have been up to 70 km away. Anyway, it was a decent ride, ... read more
