Okay so maybe one more blog. As we were driving along this morning I started thinking about our trip and some of our observations about Canada, so I thought I would list them. *The Lupine grow like crazy here. They are not only along all the roadways, they are in the woods and peoples yards, very beautiful. *Campgrounds are mostly filled with seasonal campers with only a limited number of spots for transients like us. *The typography and scenery are very much like New England *Gas is the same price at every gas station in a particular area; must be government controlled *There are some asshole drivers, but certainly not as many as we have at home. *Lobsters and oyster have not been as popular in restaurants as we thought they would be. *People here are ... read more

Saint Johns, New Brunswick 23 to 24 August 2016 It was only 1 ½ hrs from St Stephen to St Johns along the Motorway so after a slow start and a couple of phone calls to home by Sheryl and me, we arrived in St Johns at about 11.30am. Mental note: we tried breakfast at Jim Hortons in St Andrews… not to be done again. Lots of sweet stuff and the latte had 3 sugars in it!!!! Not good for someone who has no sugars. They made me another latte without sugar. We had no problems finding our hotel which was on the edge of the CBD (which they called ‘’Uptown’’). We then drove into Uptown, parked with no difficulty and went on a self-guided walking tour around the old area which was established from the ... read more

St. Stephen, NB, Canada's famous chocolate town does not rate a separate geographic deliniation in the headings. It is a town across the river from Maine that houses the Ganong Chocolate Factory. The red brick building is very impressive. It has a drive thru under an array of windows that brings you to the back of the building. I walked thru and found a well coiffed grey haired woman sitting on a bench. "Are you from around here?," I asked, thinking that she too was visiting the chocolate factory. "I live here."she said. How could she stand the smell of chocolate brewing every day? 'OH no, the two top floors are apartments and the second floor is for lawyer's and accountant's offices," she was quick to inform me. Quelle surprise! Turns out the factory moved to ... read more

St John was an amazing city. Our tour guide knew all the ins and outs of the city. They Bay of Fundy was interesting. Watching the salt water swirl with fresh water was crazy. Then this guy comes along and decides he is going to "ride the waves" in a kayak. Besides the water being in the low 40's and waves and swirls were crazy fast. This is also where I started taking lighthouse pictures.... read more

September 22, 2013 Drove off the Atlantic Vision ferry in North Sydney around 9:30 AM, gaining a half hour by arriving back in Nova Scotia. The 16 hour ferry crossing from Newfoundland was smooth and our cabin berths were very comfortable, we both slept well. Got a note from Joe's sister saying that his mom said that Joe was in Gander, Newfoundland, on a flight refueling stop on their way to Europe in 1951. So this was Joes' second trip to Newfoundland. In Baddeck, Nova Scotia, we stopped at the Alexander Graham Bell Historic Site. This was his summer home and there are about 15 acres of beautiful grounds devoted to Bell. We stopped in the town of Pictou to look at the high quality knives that are made there. Joe has been seeing these McDonald's ... read more

"Every little thing she does is magic Everything she does just turns me on Even though my life before was tragic Now I know my love for her goes on" With our first listening to The Police getting us out the door, we started from North Sydney NS to St. John NB. We found it interesting to watch the ferry ready itself for disembarkation. A giant panel in what had appeared to be a featureless fron below the bridge swung open, a ramp lifted into place, and a portion of the bow including the flagstaff swung upward and out of the way, making it possible to disembark vehicles on two levels (only one had been available in Argentia). Today was just a Point A to Point B day, with a re-tracing of roads we had driven ... read more

"Whenever I'm with him Something inside Starts to burning And I'm filled with desire" Martha and the Vandellas started us off on a journey that contained more heat at the end than at the beginning. We have experienced good weather throughout the trip other than the fog at Acadia, but today made it clear (pun intended) that good weather is not something on which you depend. Our main goal was to drive to the ferry that would carry us overnight from Argentia NL back to North Sydney NS and then drive to St. John NB. Since we had extra time before the afternoon ferry boarding, we decide to drive the coast south of St. John's, visiting the Cape Spear lighthouse and some wildlife areas. The Avalon Peninsula south of St. John's contains the earliest settlements on ... read more

lan very sick with Newfie chest cold this morning. Decided to stay an extra day in Saint John. it is an interesting place to see, but not a city we are drawn back to as a destination now that we've taken in the highlights, such as the 32' tide changes on the Bay of Fundy and how they impact the flow of the Saint John River. Turbulent fast flowing rapids at low tide are becalmed at high tide and the river resembles a pristine lake. Jet boat tours are available over the "Reversing Rapids". Later in the day, we embarked on an impulsive ride with no preset agenda or destination. Every time we came to an intersection and asked which way, the other would say Yes! We discovered 2 free small ferries crossing the river at ... read more

BRILLIANT DAY. Short and sweet: - Left Charlottetown 10:30 am - Arrived St. John New Brunswick 7:00 pm - 280 kms And In Between: - Rode across Confederation Bridge from PEI to New Brunswick. 13 kms long, longest bridge in world over ocean that freezes. - Survived roundabout at Moncton. Must have been same designers as Victoria Airport Roundabout combined into one with lanes mid roundabout that end and unforgiving unyielding drivers. - Fantastic ride along narrow, winding, hilly coast of Bay of Fundy on route 114, through Shepody National Wildlife Area. Saw massive moose on road. - Hopewell Rocks on Bay of Fundy. Stopped in for couple hours. Hiked down to Flower Rocks. 42' tide today. Maximum at 5:00 pm. Stayed on beach for one hour to watch tide rush in around us. Incredibly mindboggling ... read more

What a night! Marg woke with a start thinking there was a bear right outside her window. Then she thought someone was stealing our chairs. It turned out to be her pesky bunk mate trying to get a chair to star gaze. I woke early and just glanced out the window and saw sparkling diamonds everywhere. The moon had set and the clouds had parted leaving the stars in an incredibly dark sky. How could you just go back to bed! I was just about to get Marg when she came out saying “I want to experience it all”. We sat there for ½ an hour or so trying to identify some constellations, even seeing 4 shooting stars one of which lasted a long time and had a red firey tail. Both of us gasped at ... read more
