We arrived in Fernie nearly 3 weeks ago, to heavy snow, that turned into rain on our arrival and has been absent since. Our journey was pretty stress free, other than the fact that our snowboard bag weighed 37kgs so we had to take some stuff out and put it with our other hold luggage and pay £44 extra! Our place here is pretty sweet. We have our own en-suite and very comfy double bed(albeit it could do with being a bit bigger Sam takes up half the bed!) we have free wi-fi, satellite TV, and hot room, 2 massive fridges and a pretty well equipt kitchen! Our landlords are amazing, they keep asking what else we need to make our stay more comfortable, so inevitably I came up with a list☺ We are sharing with ... read more

Once again I need to be beaten for slacking off again in terms of Blog updates. Anne and I are still in Fernie, but sadly, today is our last day! Tomorrow we leave for 3 months in Scotland prior to heading to the Balkans. Fernie has been our home for the last 18 months, and whilst we are sad to go, we are excited about our next adventure. We have had a terrific time over the last 3 months since our last post. We took another jaunt into the 'wilderness' with Ian to Glacier National Park. A beautiful place, but alas we were socked in with alot of fog and rain, so we missed many of the vista's. Good times are always had with good friends, so we had a blast. Toronto and Niagara Falls was ... read more

We loved Banff but we were excited to continue on our roadtrip, so after getting a quick coffee in the morning we continued on our way to Fernie. The drive was nice, lots of different scenery compared to what we have seen so far, there was ofcourse mountains but there were lots of farm land and a couple of massive lakes. But the highlight would of had to of been driving up to a grey wolf standing in the middle of the road. We were the first car in bit of a convoy so we slowed everyone else down and also got the best view of him but we couldn't get the camera out in time to capture it as we were in a bit of owe, as the grey wolf is not a very common ... read more

Hi to all. It seems like it's been forever since we last made an update. Apologies to all who like to see what we are up to. We have had a lot of lazy summer days here. High temperatures for the last 2 months, but that's all about to change - Summer here lasts only about 2 months before cooler temperatures set in. Anne has continued to slave away at the Salvation Army, and both of us have been hitting the streets and trails with lots of miles to prepare for the Toronto Marathon. Anne will be walking the 1/2 marathon (21 Kilometers) and I have to say, her walking pace is beyond mine. She is quick! We had alot of plans to visit parts of the US this year, but we have been waiting almost ... read more

Yipee! Photos finally! Feast yer peepers! Well well. Its been a very, very long time since Ive posted. But here they are, here I am, and wow, am I having a really great time. Such a great time, Im actually out of time.. but I should have just enough to outline our route. From Penticton where my last pictured post was sent in, we rode North to Kelowna, and then back south through Penticton to Osoyoos. From there we climbed Anarchist's Summit, over to Grand Forks. From there, it was off to Christina Lake, followed by the lovely section of the Trans Canada Trail to Castlegar. Then on to Nelson, followed NE by Harrop and Proctor, then down one of the most beautiful lakes in the world to Creston. From Creston, we went up and over ... read more

Another day in paradise. We started out from a drizzly Castlegar (on the 1st day of their "Sunfest") and headed up to Nelson (hippy/ski town) which is actually pretty neat...lots of cool shops (read 'outdoor gear') and cafes. From there we went along the shores of Kootenay Lake and Samuel had his first ferry ride. The road was very windy, but lots of very nice houses to gawk at. At Gray Creek we ate a lake-side lunch with a splendid view of the Selkirk Mtn Range. Back on the road...and on through Creston...non-descript really. And after a not-so-quick snack in Cranbrook we hit the road and headed into the mountians. We had sun on and off and crossed into the next time zone, losing an hour before we knew it. We are staying the night in ... read more

The last time I posted, Anne and I were happily skiing our asses off, and enjoying Christmas. Wow. That was a long time ago! Now it's Spring, and all the snow has disappeared from town, and is starting to leave the mountains. It's bittersweet, no more skiing, but now I get to start enjoying the beautiful trails again on my runs. Bitumen can get so boring. Also, I'd like to officially state that I now hate shoveling snow. It only takes one season here to thoroughly get that right out of my system. Even with our wonderful neighbor snow-blowing our driveway on the worst days. The closing parts of the ski season had some fun events, including "The Dummy Downhill" which is sort of like the Birdman Rally in Melbourne, but with an intelligent difference being ... read more

What a season we had Fernie. We had over 10 metres of snow! It was unreal, with so many powder days and heaps of them over 30cm. One week in early February everyday was a powder day with one of them being 44cm…out of control! Mind you on that same day it was pretty cold, nearly -40 C with wind chill. Though when there is that much powder I don’t think anything would have kept us away! We did call it quits early when the end of Karl’s nose turned white from frostbite though. Luckily by the time he got down to the day lodge it had turned back to normal. All up Emma did 51 days of riding and Karl did 60 days. We both improved a lot in the time. Emma did her first ... read more

Hey y'all! I know I know - but things have been a little hectic around here these last few weeks. The season went from casually ripping up the slopes and drinking beer to full on revising and practicing. It's been like Snowboard University. I'll even go so far as to say that a little of the same kinda stress from my Uni days was present before exam day, but more of that in a bit. So, week 8 and we all went off to another resort called Red Mountain near the US border. This was a full on r&r weekend staying in luxury condos on the hill, riding the fresh dump of powder, and drinking cocktails in the hot tub. And man did we make the most of it! I spent so long in that outdoor ... read more

Yep, we passed! Ok, so how exciting is that, we both passed our Level 1’s! Yay! First exam done, one more to go. So, 2 months since the last blog. I know rubbish, but believe me this riding every day is exhausting. It really is! You try the equivalent of 7 hours a day in the gym and see if you can stay awake past 9pm, I certainly can’t! Ok so no real excuse but we truly have been busy. In fact busy doing so much other stuff I’m going to have to skim through everything just so I can keep this shorter then a thesis! Right, in no particular order: Ski-dooing: Awesome. Now remember we are in North America here. None of this pathetic ‘follow the leader around the piste’ business from France. We got ... read more
