So it's been over 3 weeks since we've been in Turkey and a lot has happened! We arrived in Istanbul on Tuesday 5th April and after A LOT of waiting around we were picked up by some people from the English Time branch and taken to our hostel! As Mika likes to say a Turks' 10 minutes is about 1 hour in our time! It was all pretty stressful and all we wanted was to get some food and relax!! Anyway we spent 2 nights in Istanbul walking around, eating plenty of kebabs, getting lost, discovering the Bazaar, paying ridiculous amounts for a Turkish tea but then discovering a cheaper place where the locals go, paying to pee, eating at Burger Turk and of course finding somewhere to watch the Man U game where we met ... read more

We got to Bursa and booked a hotel after dinner. There was some disagreement between me, dad and Ivan but we finally settled on a place. Me and Ivan went for a 3 hour walk to check out Bursa at night and met some boys that wanted to take photos with me doing cheek pressing and offered Ivan some booze. Heading back we grabbed dad from the hotel and got a traditional Russian dinner, a chicken (a whole one), rice and salad. I had an awesome sleep that night! We spent a day looking around Bursa on the 29 of November. After a yummy lentil soup for breakfast we got a cab (for 5 TL or 3.70 AUD) to Ulucami (mosque in Turkish) - a mosque in the Persian style of architecture. We then headed to ... read more

We travelled by taxi to the ferry terminals where we caught a ferry across the Bospherous to Yalova, in order to catch a local bus to Bursa. The buses in Turkey are very impressive. We were warned however, that noise was not appreciated as Turkish people did not like to disturb others. We endeavoured to be polite. We were even served water, coffee and a biscuit by the attentive conductor. Bursa was not far and after settling in, we headed out to lunch to enjoy the traditional iskender kebab - delicious. We met again late afternoon for a guided walk around the city. We visited some mosques with the green/blue tilework that originated from this area and then walked to a highpoint to view the surrounds of Bursa from above just on dusk. From there we ... read more

It must be a disease.......... This niece of mine tops her entire generation when it comes to shopping. Her eyes would flit from stall to stall, her legs would carry her darting from store to store, her pockets were eternally wanting for replenishment. From Istanbul through Kusadaci through Denizli through Cappadocia through Ankara, it has been an endless journey of shopping for the best turquiose set of jewelry, or the best evil eye bracelet and keychain, or the best leather shoes or shirt for Shelly. I do shop too, but I'm not exactly a big fan of shopping till you drop. I have long gone past the period of picking up souvenir items or even museum and history books, but would always make a mental note of one or two pieces that I would like to ... read more
