Diving in Turkey
Padi & SDI open water freedive The day of the flight we get our bid flu masks at the ready from Birmingham to Turkey, on meeting Oli & Maja we rock our masks and think we look pretty fly!
The flight is fairly standard and we arrive to hot Turkey, just our transfer to go till we get to the Villa Louise in Calkan.
We arrive at Villa Louise and it looks amazing, pool is nice and warm and the rooms are a great size. We kick back and shotgun our rooms!
On to exploring the local town and it's many bars and resturants, on the first shop I go into the local shop owner starts speaking Turkish to me, apparently I look like a local Turk who goes by the name of Memet! And so the name sticks for the rest of the holiday, yay! On looking around I do seem to look a bit Turkish, maybe I'll speak to my Dad about that later..!
The next day we hit the beach and relax, a chilled out day with lots of swimming and sunning, the notable thing about this day is Dad doing the pebble-dance getting out of the water (pebble beach),
always comical to watch someone pebble-dance out of the sea.
We decide to get some local food in for the villa and stock up on fine local meats and treats, the added benefit of Villa Louise is the alfresco dining terrace which is just amazing and comes with an outside bbq which gets some heavy use. Many afternoons spent eating, playing cards and relaxing to follow.
The next day is a definite pool day where we perfect some fairly epic pool jumping photos, thanks in part to some rather arty photo taking on my part! On the same day it's so hot my underwater camera from traveling melts by been left out on the pool edge, fair to say it was a mighty wam day indeed! (Typo intentional for those who know me)
The days to follow are full of BBQ meat and what can only be described as a beer and food extravaganza with some pancake hut eating chucked in for good measure. We establish that girls are not the right demographic for watching the new Indiana Jones 4 move, girls say no!
After a few days of relaxing we decide to go a bit
cultured and book a day trip to Chitchavatia and Saklikent Gorge for some river walking. The anchient ruines are cool and we perfect yet some more jumping and planking photos! The river walk to follow is an experience and a lot of fun, watching my Mom get helped through the river by the local tour guide was again a bit of a giggle. After a jam packed day the excursion stops at a river town with tree houses for dinning in, we relax out of the sun and take in the sights.
Another few days of fine dining in the evening follow and the local restaurants are all delish, that said the food we are making at the villa can't be beat.
Me and Oli decide to take on the local ship wreck dive which was great, we get a few pictures and get to dive through the ship wreck, pretty awesome dive by all accounts. Me been Padi and SDI certified diver and still been pretty fresh in my head from all the diving I did traveling made this a lot more chilled out than my first diving experience which was a bit more scary in Koh
Toh in Thailand, as always Oli had now problem with the diving.
We get back to the Villa and take on some more food, i'd say to summarise the holiday we did some serious tanning followed by some serious Delaney style eating!
Great to be back home and see the family again after a fine gap year exploring the globe, big thanks for Mom & Dad for sorting this amazing holiday out for us all.
