Edit Blog Post
Reading back through our earliest blogs, I see that J truly basked in the spotlight of the first born, with regular blogs detailing his every new move. G is falling short already, as her harassed Mummy barely finds time to take pics in the first place, let alone follow it up with witty repartee online. Therefore this entry is simply 'all about G', written as she approaches her six month birthday.
As her parents, we admit to a slight bias, but she is just gorgeous! She has a slightly olive skin tone (from Nanny, although I seem to remember I used to be similar till I moved to Scotland!) Most people comment on her eyes, which are dark, possibly hazel like her mum's, but with a little grey from her dad too. They're fringed with long, thick, curvy lashes, the envy of any grown woman and bordered by thick dark eyebrows (the envy of any grown man?) 'Kate Middleton eyebrows, very fashionable', I've been told.
Her hair is dark, but there's very little of it still, although she hasn't lost any, like her brother did, or even developed little bald spots from sleeping. That may because she does very
little sleeping, but more of that later!
She's very quick to smile, and when she does her eyes twinkle, and her cheeks dimple, moreso on the left side (just like her Aunty Wisa). She has a mean chuckle, too. There's a video of that here:
Funny kisses She's 25th percentile for weight, 91st for length, i.e. long and skinny, which means she's sometimes mistaken for being older than she actually is, something compounded by how strong she is. Ever since she was a tiny newborn she's been lifting her head up, stretching out for a nosey! Now she loves to feel her feet beneath her and is delighted if you hold her standing up by her fingers, she gets giddy with excitement before collapsing in a heap! We've borrowed a 'jumperoo' bouncer from a friend which she loves, there's a film of her bouncing in it:
bounce, bounce!. Listen for the raspberry blowing - another favourite activity!
She's surprised us how good she's become at sitting up. Again, with J we spent hours cooing over every attempt to stay upright, but I suddenly noticed that G was sitting there on her own, unaided! Still got a bit of 'baby left,
baby right' going on, so I can't leave her perched there for long. She first rolled over at 5 months, which I captured on video, and posted here:
G rolls over She adores her big brother, her whole face lights up when she sees him. I love to watch her in the pram when he climbs onto the buggy board, she's wreathed in smiles. Unfortunately the feeling is not mutual, and she ruins her chances of ingratiating herself by grabbing fistfuls of hair every time he does deign to come near her!
A few days ago, for the first time, she reached out with both arms to indicate she wanted to go to Daddy (again, why is it always Daddy they go to?!?!) when he got home from work. Most exciting of all, today I found the tiniest little point of a tooth poking through her lower gums, hooray, first tooth! Explains a lot, perhaps our nights will start to get a little easier.
Because G, dearest G, loves to be held. She loves to be held all day and all night, she's my velcro baby! She will go down for a nap, but the second you remove your
hand the clock starts and you have twenty minutes max before she's awake again. However, if she's lying asleep on you she'll happily snooze for two hours. It can be pretty exhausting, particularly as the poor thing is quite clearly tired (she has a 'sleepy song' she sings when she needs a nap, and yes there's a video of that online too)! But I've just not been able to break the habit, too tired perhaps, so at night we cuddle down together to sleep, then she's never far away from me.
She is showing a very different temperament to J, which has been a surprise, although it shouldn't be I suppose. She's a lot more sensitive, quite fragile, she has a cry that could shatter glass, and is not afraid to use it! But so long as someone is there to pick her up she's quite happy, and will flap her arms up and down excitedly when she recognises someone. As you'd imagine, she's very cuddly.
Which reminds me, our English readers will be relieved to know that I'm repeatedly assured by locals that 'she's not strange'. Good to hear it! Means she is not afraid of strangers,
apparently.
(Too many photos to choose from, haven't had time to edit them, so just throwing stacks up for now, as I should have been in bed long ago! Enjoy them while they're there and I'll sort them out another day. Also just realised the sleepy song won't be live yet, so come back soon for the link!)
