Due to the efficient disembarking, we were on the road heading for the 100m high cliffs of Sumburgh Head 45kms from Lerwick, the southernmost section of mainland Shetland, on which stands the lighthouse and the famous breeding cliffs for puffins and numerous other birds. Clydesdale ... the tough work horse of the Shetlands.


Old Scatness Broch Iron Age Village - this site contains the best preserved remains of Iron Age village in UK (400-200BC)


One of the airport runways has the road connecting Lerwick to Sumburgh going across it. Reminds me of Gibraltar.


Shetland Croft Museum ... note the straw roof is kept down by rope/twine tied to stone which is placed on the edges/down slope of the roof. Small roof 'holes' are for light.



Shetland pony. They have been in domestic use for 2000 years.


Quendale Water Mill - the water wheel is the original from 1868.
