I can't believe it's already March! But what a great way to start a new month! Nick, Kathy, Harriet, and I went into Edinburgh this morning around 11:00. My flatmate seems to have disappeared, so we didn't have our own personal tour guide, but we did a great job managing on our own. The train was great- got us there in under and hour and was pretty cheap- £6.50 one way. When we got there, we looked around a little bit and bought a map. We figured out where we were starting from, marked it on the map, and then stuffed the map into a bag and just started walking around. As we walked around, we saw some impressive monuments, especially the Sir Walter Scott Monument which seemed to have a lot of Gothic influence. It ... read more

Below there are a couple pictures from around Stirling. Kathy and I went into town yesterday- I got the essentials- you know, cooking utensils, some pans, a new shirt, a couple new pairs of shoes (for £15!) ... the necessities of life :) Then last night Kathy, Nick, Sara (my flatmate), and I went out to the William Wallace around 10 just to hang out for a bit, and then we ended up at Beat, which is a club right down the main road of campus. It was definitely better than the last time when we went, and Nick got punched by some kid. This weekend, we're thinking about going to Edinburgh (Saturday) to look around and hang out. I'm super excited about seeing more of Scotland! It sounds like there are so many more interesting ... read more

Today, Kathy and I walked around campus. There's a big loch (bigger than we had expected) right in the middle of campus with a path around the whole thing. We had a great time running away from the vicious swans and checking out Airthrey Castle, which is right here on campus and has some classes conducted in it. We got back to our flats just in time for the rain to start- talk about good timing! :) After not getting to the William Wallace Monument yesterday because of weather, I figured this would be a good way to get outside and see a little bit more of Scotland. Next weekend, maybe we'll venture out a little further lol. ... read more

It's the weekend! This past week was pretty busy, so it was nice to finally get to sleep in this morning :) Lots of reading to do today (I've made a pretty good dent in my criminology reading), laundry, and then I think I'm going over to the William Wallace Monument as long as the weather stays nice. It's actually not too windy here today, but the last couple of days have been pretty vicious. Here are some more pictures from the last two weeks: ... read more

There's so much to catch up on! I just got a new computer today b/c the dinosaur kicked the bucket on the second night I was here. But anyways, it's a Toshiba, light weight, will play my UK version of Pretty Woman and my three US DVDs I brought along, has a great webcam (hint, hint), and goes along really fast. So much has happened, and only in the last week- I've started classes, I've been into town almost everyday, I've met another Texan, drank Scottish beers, found a favorite pub (called The William Wallace), I've had drinks bought for me by skeezing Scottish men, and I've even eaten fish and chips (don't try the burgers...). I've met my flatmates, and they're both pretty awesome. Sara is the sweetest girl ever- she's from Edinburgh and a ... read more

I'm here in Scotland! Today's the first day of classes, and I'm just posting a short entry in between. My computer kicked the bucket on Monday, but once that gets all worked out, I'll write more. Hope you all are doing well! Miss you :)... read more

Howdy everybody! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. This weekend was really fun. Me and two of my friends went to the small city of Stirling. Stirling is about an hour bus ride out of Edinburgh and is famous for two things, the Stirling Castle and the William Wallace Monument. Me and my two friends left Edinburgh by bus early on Saturday morning. We ate some sandwiches on the bus and got into Stirling an hour later. The day was perfect, not a cloud in the sky and the weather in the mid 40's. The bus dropped us off at the bus station and we asked about how to get to the Wallace Monument (the monument is about 5 miles away from the city center and we had to take a bus.) After a quick ... read more
