Elaine and I had a great night at the Kanye West concert. We were a bit late and missed the support acts but Kanye was super duper! We had standing tickets and as we are petite girlies it was a bit difficult to see at some points but the sound was brill. Went out clubbing afterwards at the Tunnel which was surprisingly good and managed to get ourselves kicked out of Canton Express (late night chinese for those of you who don't know Glasgow). Going to miss Glasgow nights out with my mates when i'm away!!... read more

Mid term break provides teachers in the UK with a much needed break from the rigors of dealing with this chaotic profession. But for a lifestyle-teacher like myself it provides an opportunity to frolic in a foreign land… in this case Scotland would be the land to which I turn. Azz did his very best to miss the bus, but apart from that, after a ‘wee’ 6 hour journey we arrived in Glasgow well acquainted with the humdrum of green pasture, snow capped mountain tops and British sheep. For the first time this trip, I was lured into doing tourist type things like visiting ancient castles, historic monuments and antiquated battlefields. But by delving into the history behind each town we visited (Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh), one could not help but marvel at how amazing ... read more

Today Emily and I started our first trip together completely independent of school and everyone else in the program. For the most part all of the other kids from school joined the trip to Prague with the school but we decided to take the more budget-friendly and unique option to spend the long weekend up north in Scotland. We left last night on the overnight bus from London to Glasgow. I'm not going to lie that this wasn't the most pleasant experience that we've ever had considering that we both thought we might freeze to death before we even reached our final destination. I don't know what the deal was but no matter how hard we tried we just couldn't get warm. The bus left London at almost midnight and we arrived in Glasgow at just ... read more

Hi All and welcome to my new website! It's only 3 months until my RTW world trip but only got 3 weeks left of work, so as you can imagine i'm busy trying to arrange a handover but at the same time so excited! I bought quite a bit of my kit at the weekend, rucksack, sleeping bag etc. Was great fun...until i got it home and realised how small it was! Oh my god - how am i supposed to fit in all my stuff i need while i'm away??!! I bought the karrimor wilderness 65 and although it seems quite good and nice pink colour etc i just feel i might need a bigger one. It's not even as if i am packing non-essentials like hair straighteners, can't seem to fit in more than ... read more

Hello everyone back in Canada! I have made it through my first 2 weeks here and have already learned alot about this country..... * asking for a "Toilet" is not considered a rude way to ask for a bathroom- i am still getting used to this one * ignore the crosswalks even if there are police right next to you- or else you will stand there for 5 minutes waiting for the green man to show up * show up 5 minutes late for classes and you will still beat the professor there * scottish traditional dancing is more tiring then it looks- the constant twirling and placing (jumping on one foot back and forth) really makes you wish you hadnt just ate a huge plate of haggis! * haggis is not as gross as it ... read more

Birmingham, stardate: whenever. We saw some stuff, but not much. It was fun. Bought some yogurt, bought some grapes... ate 'em. That was fun. Liverpool, stardate: sometime after whenever. Great name, has nothing to do with livers, or pools for that matter, but there's a lot of water around it... is that a pool? Actually, Liverpool used to be the foremost port for slave trade between England and America, so we were told. Now, it's full of merry men and women smashed off their "magic" knickers--mostly students and the like. Aside from all that, we liked Liverpool a lot, and we had a great view of it from atop a mangificent cathedral. We were also fortunate enough to walk by the University of Liverpool after grabbing a bite to eat at Kemo's. Northern Wales, stardate: Uh, ... read more

Hey all! Oy, what a day. I hopped on a bus at 7am, got to London at 9 and walked around all day. Got to see all the big stuff; Buckingham Palace, St James Park, Big Ben, Parliament buildings, Westminister Abbey, the National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, Picadilly Circus, Tate Museum of Modern Art, and then everything in between. By 7pm I called it quits, it was dark and I was getting really cold, and I actually bruised my collarbone from my backpack (full hiking pack). I just waited in the coach station for the rest of the evening, sent a couple emails but just rested. Despite the after-effects, it was in retrospect a phenomenal day. As far as adventures go this was my first one truly solo, no friends to help me out. It was fun ... read more

Hello everyone Sorry this has taken so long for me to post but the internet here is not easy to access and it randomly cuts out sometimes . So I have been in the beautiful city of Glasgow for just over a week now and its been excellent everyday. I started out by staying the the Travel Inn for 4 nights after a long flight over from Calgary. My first few days were filled with exploring my new home and meeting with other exchange students. My first weekend here involved a trip to the more eastern city of Edinburough. A friend from France was doing a work term over there so he was able to show me around. Its a very different city from Glasgow- there are more old building there and alot less shopping. I ... read more

Hello everyone, This will probably be my last blog entry, and this is the first time I've actually had any time to do this. First of all, apologies to all of you who have e-mailed me and had no reply - had no access when I was in the USA. Now finding time to catch up with the 300+ e-mails in my inbox. You will have gathered that we also had limited access to e-mail when Vicki and I were travelling - what an amazing experience it was though. Have now attached some photos of (what were for me) the highlights of that time. Hope that you like them. Must say that the most amazing part of the trip was definitely Machu Picchu. It's almost something spiritual when you see it. Lake Titicaca was also very ... read more
