Sunday 10 July 2022, our second rest day - no walking on the WHW today. Monday 11 July 2022, Day 7 on the WHW. Tyndrum to Bridge of Orchy, 7.3 miles by Garmin, 489 feet elevation gain, 3 hours 30 minutes walking. Our rest day around Tyndrum saw bright sunshine and motorcyclists and more people enjoying this beautiful area. Tyndrum, although small, fits the description of a mountain resort community. The place is full of 'bikers,' hikers, and folks out just loving the sunshine in Scotland. We have our first introduction to a box breakfast. A paper bag with croissant, yogurt, juice, freeze dried coffee and a box of make your own porridge that once mixed up with boiling water, looks and tastes like wallpaper paste. The second part of the walking adventure was undertaken by 2 members of the original crew (Kirsty & Tania) and a new willing addition (Caroline). Unfortunately the other 2 original members (Debbie & Lynn) had other commitments, so they took a reign check on this occasion but will be back for the finale next year! The route commenced from the Drovers Inn (Inveranan) to the Kings House Hotel (Glencoe), 31 miles from start to finish. crowded house sing the lyrics, “everywhere u go, always take the weather with u”.. such lyrics have never been sung in a more pertinent context than during a 6 day hike along the west highland way in the northern scottish highlands. our mostly chipper party of 4 familiarised themselves with all the colours of the climactic + atmospheric conditions, sometimes even within the same day! the weather ranged from harsh stones of hail, battering rain + thrashing wind to days of placid stillness + glowing, shimmering sunshine. the team consisting of maRKie mark + sanna townsend + the kangakilts started the 154km (96miles) route at milngavie (near glasgow). we then passed through mugdock country park, followed the shores of loch lomond, passing ben lomond, through glen falloch + strathfillan, crossing rannoch moor, past buachaille etive mor ... read more
