Lavenham is on the A134, situated between Bury St Edmunds and Sudbury, and is accessible by bus from these towns. Lavenham once flourished with the textile industry and there are a number of original Tudor houses with timber frames and mullioned windows which were used for the industry in the past. These historic houses have been listed and well-maintained, and have been converted to hotels, restaurants, porcelain shops, and gift shops, which the tourists use. Standing in the centre of the village, the Guild Hall was built in 1530 and it is one of the oldest buildings in Lavenham. The house is managed by the National Trust. Visitors can read and look at materials and photos illustrating the history and development of Lavenham and surrounding villages, exhibits of the traditional methods of agricultural and farming industry
