We stood at the gate . We had parked Ziggy up on the tiniest of plots of grass where parking was allowed . We were alone apart from a lone cyclist who had propped his bicycle up against the fence. He was waiting for us to come through the gate before he saddled up and rode away. We were entirely alone at that point . In the distance we could see Lilleshall church which felt a million miles away from bustling nearby Telford. On top of the highest point above the villlage was an obelisk . We had seen it from miles back . A memorial to the Duke of Sutherland and the Earl of Stafford or something like that when it came to titles . He owned land around Lilleshall and also the massive Trentham ... read more

*******Edit - Just for ref this blog was written on 13th Jan 2018. I had to mark it as 6th March so it would fall under the South America "Trip" otherwise it wouldn't be linked****** Follow on instagram k8e37 for photos of the trip whilst we are away and for prep photos! Here we are again just under two months out from another fantastic trip. This time we are heading to South America, visiting Brazil, Peru & Argentina. Hotels are reserved, flights have been booked for a few months and we are now in the final planning stages so thought it was the best time to start the blog as things are ramping up! I'll put our itinerary on another blog post so everything is altogether but the gist of the trip is London Heathrow to ... read more

** Again putting this post as 6th March so it fits under the South America blogs - its actually 20th Jan 2018 ** Follow on instagram k8e37 for photos of the trip whilst we are away and for prep photos! Quick update regarding jabs, all is good from the yellow fever *touch wood* so far and I'm 10 days after having it so only another 4 to go until I'm clear of any apparent side effects. I would say that around day 5 I did feel pretty tired and as if I was coming down with anything but I felt better after some rest and apart from a bit of a funny throat I'm all good. So rabies... I still haven't had jab number two. Had to phone up Boots on Tuesday to check they had ... read more

**Posted on the 5th March** Final blog post before we leave for London tomorrow…. Jabs update, the nurse managed to get my paper copy of my notes and turns out I needed the MMR booster in the end which I had just over a week ago, which knocked me about a bit for a few days. One of the side effects for adult women is aches and pains in muscles and joints 2-3 weeks after the injection which is smack bang in the middle of the trek so fingers crossed I don’t get those, well on top of the expected aches and pains anyway! Had my third rabies jab and the polio, tetanus and diptheria so thats nine in total in the past 6 weeks, I think it’s safe to say my needle phobia is gone! ... read more

It was only a short drive from IronBridge to the 16th century Elizabethan manor house http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/wilderhope-manorwhere we would stay for the night. What a gorgeous setting. We got a recomendatiion for the evening meal...Royal Oaks Pub, Isle of Wight Got into an enjoyable conversation with a couple sitting near us. After we described our month long travel, they strongly suggested we add Isle of Wight to our itinerary. We had decided to make reservations only for when we arrived and would depart from Manchester, so we had flexibility. We had also decided we didn't want to rush and would not try to travel Wales, Scotland or down to Port Isaac...filming village for the Doc Martin series Ruth and I really enjoy. early in the morning, before breakfast, I roamed the manor estate. Talked with the farm ... read more

Since the last blog post I've been busy doing lots of research on where to stop along the way. I've been searching instagram a lot for pictures of great views which has been a great help. We've also made a decision about changing the route very slightly. We've kept the motels the same though. The new route will add about an extra half an hour of back tracking but hopefully will be worth it. We were originally travelling from Clinton north up Route 97 and then across to Blue River along a smallish road. After some research its possible the road might be a bit icy depending on the weather and some posts on some forums say the scenery isn't the best. A better route for scenery is to go through Kamloops. However this means backtracking ... read more

We've finally booked all the hotels, car hire and even train tickets and hotel for the airport trip out and back home. The full itinerary is: Evening Tues 10th May - Travel by train (1st class - thought we'd treat ourselves!) down to Gatwick and stay over in the airport Travelodge. Wednesday 11th May - Fly from Gatwick to Vancouver with Westjet 12.55pm arriving in Vancouver at 3.40pm. We pick up a Ford Escape car rental once we've picked up our luggage and head off on a drive to our first hotel an hour away in Horseshoe Bay at the aptly named Horseshoe Bay Motel. Thursday 12th May - We leave the motel and head across to Bowen Island on the car ferry. Bowen Island is a small island just off the coast and the car ... read more

So, here we go again the next adventure awaits. Its been a while since I last blogged on our Route 66 trip. I've been to New Zealand and Australia since in January 2015 with Steph visiting her family. I meant to do a blog but I'd just come out of a very business Christmas period (I own my own business creating and making personalised gifts) so the 3.5 weeks travelling to NZ and AUS was spent relaxing and once I'd forgotten to start the blog it felt weird if I had started in the middle. However this next trip which is planned will give me more time hopefully to blog and detail the adventures we get up to and more importantly the scenery we are hopefully going to see. This time its just Steph and myself ... read more

So its only four days until we go away. The last couple of weeks have gone very fast. Camcorder has been ordered and delivery was attempted yesterday so I'll have to get that first thing tomorrow, which leaves me next to no time to have a play with it, completely my own fault! Oh well! Finally managed to get a Kipling case which should be delivered on Tuesday. By complete luck I found a company auctioning them on ebay, they've been going for £65 for the last few weeks, typical the time I find it is end of the month and I get into a bidding war but I won muhahaha! I wont say how much but its cheaper than Amazon so I'm happy. Ipad mini arrived and I'm pretty pleased with it and I've ordered ... read more

So time is definitely going fast now, two weeks on Thursday we'll be heading off to Chicago. Talk has turned to how many shifts/days left to work and I've started to plan when I'll be shutting up shop to new orders, to allow the time to pack and double check everything. Myself and Steph have ordered an ipad mini each which should be arriving this week. We've managed to get a 64gb wifi and cellular one each for a good price giving us plenty of storage space for photos, video clips and of course music whilst we're away. I'm starting to think about how much electronic equipment I'm going to have on me in my hand luggage, half of it is going to have to come out for the scanner. There's going to be my iphone, ... read more
