Sion had been looking forward to going out today . It had been difficult to keep him happy when he was counting down the days hours until he met his best friend Woolly Mammoth . It had been a little difficult at this time of year to find somewhere that it is happy to accomodate a mammoth, a sheep and a dog and two humans. But The British Ironworks Centre came up trumps again as they allow dogs and we knew we could get a meal there quite easily . So plans were made . "Have you got me a woolly jumper, a woolly coat , my scarf and hat ?" Well I had to explain to Sion that once again sadly I had slipped up and not got round to getting him his winter clothing ... read more

"Are we there yet ?" Sion has been asking that question since around February . If it wasn't for holidays then it was trying to find out when he was going to meet his best friend Woolly. Holidays had gone by very quickly and he had kept quiet whilst we were in France. He realised that Woollys carer Jo was working and would not be around all summer . The Autumn trip to Denmark came and went and of course he realised that the glamping season was coming to an end and the cry "When are we meeting my best friend?" was ringing round the house. Jo duly finished work and then things sort of got in the way. A out of sorts cooker. A car crash. With Christmas fast approaching though we just could not ... read more

A few minutes after the end of the first games in Qualifying Round 1 in this year’s Champions league, an email popped into my inbox. It simply said The New Saints v Rijeka. The champions of Croatia were coming to England. Are we going, I responded? In a seaport on the Adriatic coast of Croatia, the interested were busy no doubt scouring their maps to wonder why they had drawn a team from Wales but were trying to locate a small football ground in provincial Shropshire, England. Albeit only 8 miles from the Welsh border, but an important distinction nonetheless. A trip to Oswestry was subsequently planned. I must admit I had to look at a map myself. I was actually more familiar with Rijeka, after our visit to the Kantrida a few years back. I’ve ... read more

Woolly says – with dark clouds overhead and the wind slicing through the trees I had endeavoured to find something inside for us to do for the day, coming across the Museum of Transport and the Cambrian Railway in nearby Oswestry on the world wide web. I primed the sat nav and sat back for a quick drive…..well it would have been quick if a certain driver hadn’t needed to drive twice round the town first before finally parking miles away, I huffed and sighed in exasperation before demanding to be carried. My small companion seemed to be at cross trunks and having ignored his rude comments at other drivers and the stream of sighs as we circumnavigated round Oswestry for the second time it wasn’t going well. Woolly says – Having finally convinced Jo that ... read more

We found the escape hatch from work last Friday, picked up the Schnauzer Sisters from the groomers, jumped in the car and headed four hours down the M6 from Edinburgh to a gorgeous part of the English countryside - Shropshire. Its our first proper break together without our respective children and we opted for a quiet, quaint, and quirky location to rest our weary bones, kick back and mentally prepare for the mayhem and madness of the forthcoming summer holidays. Gobowen is a little village close-ish to Shrewsbury and we are staying about 2 miles outside of this in an ex stately home called Henlle Hall. To quote the accommodation as stunningly decorated, relaxing to the max, stylish and spa-like, really wouldn't do it justice at all. We are in a converted stable block called The ... read more
