Letchworth is the world’s first Garden City, created as a reaction to and a solution for the squalor and poverty of urban life in Victorian Britain in the late 1800s. Letchworth was the brainchild of Ebenezer Howard, the visionary Victorian social reformer who was inspired by the new towns being built for their workers by such as Unilever, Cadburys and Rowntrees. The developments at Port Sunlight, Bournville and in York prompted his writings to turn into reality in a bid to halt the rush of workers from the country to the miserable fate that awaited many in London. hello!!! Well its been a little longer this time, since i last was on a blog! I'm not quite sure where the last 18 months have gone but the road is calling once more so i have a week to try and condense my life once more into a even smaller rucksack before i set off to a life of curry for 3 meals a day and probably to have my concept of personal space challenged every minute. Looking at my last blogs i seem to get less prepared with each trip. Hello Everyone! I haven't posted a blog in a little while...so...what HAVE I been up to??? Well, for starters I have actually been doing some homework. I turned in a fiche technique and a revue de presse yesterday, and I have been reading all about Giuseppe Verdi in preparation for an oral expose in my class "Discovery of the Opera" next Tuesday. Actually, preparing the expose is tomorrow's project. I have been enjoying "discovering" the opera during the semester and have even managed to get to TWO in the past few weeks! Queridos amigos y familia. Les mando mi primer blog, que más que blog es un anuncio para los que están por venir en el próximo mes y medio. La cosa es que como muchos de ustedes saben, este jueves 14 me voy a Inglaterra!!! Hermoso viaje que gracias a mi papá, nuestro querido Pepito, puedo realizar :-) Nuestra "base" será Letchworth Garden City, la casa de Matt, y de ahí no tengo muy claro a qué lugares o países vamos a ir, esperemos que los planes (y la plata!) vayan bien y podamos llegar muy lejos... por el momento está obviamente Inglaterra (dar vueltas hasta Liverpool por mandato de mi abuela Lucha), muy posible Escocia (porque no puede ser posible que me haya pasado cuatro años de vida viendo Highlander el Inmortal y estando tan cerca ... read more
