It feels like we have done no preparation for this trip. Much of the kit is still packed and ready to throw back onto the bike. We aren't doing a big tour this time so no routes to plan. We just needed to agree and book a destination and set the dates. Oh and this time, we are going with friends, Ken and Briony. One significant piece of prep was to change the springs on the bike. Last trip was done with a leaking front fork. Although this didn't seriously affect the handling, the loss of oil meant the bike tended to wallow and dive under breaking. I decided I'd have a crack and fixing this myself... ok with a lot of help from Ken. As the forks were coming off I also thought it a ... read more

With the first part of our trip underway, we said our goodbyes in Welwyn Garden City (Hertfordshire) and headed South around the M25 toward Basingstoke and the next stop on our schedule. We have been working with our excel spread sheet that identifies all of the stops on our tour, detailing where we are morning, afternoon, evening and overnight. Without it I think that we would find this trip quite difficult, Andy says it’s like being on tour with the Rolling Stones. We had wondered if we should find a base and make our visits from that base, but that is quite a tricky thing to do unless we rented a house somewhere so we will see how this trip works out, equally by staying with friends and family we had dedicated time to spend with ... read more

The rain stopped today- at least the downpouring did. There was the occasional sprinklw, wherein the clouds did their just diligence to remind us mortals that they still had the power to drench, soak and wet to the bone!!!! Our adventuring took us into the New Forest, which as Gunther remarked, may have been new several hundreds of years ago. Today, it seems to me more like a large forest preserve where the land is maintained in a more natural state and livestock and horses left to wander....as we drove along, there were multiple congregations of said beasts- some just cows, some just horses, others groups which included both....all right along the road-or, in one or two cases, slowly meandering across the road!!! Their were foals in evidence a-plenty. No photographic evidence though- sorry! Our first ... read more

So there are less than 28 days to wait now, and my list of things to get done is slowly getting smaller. I managed to cover my travel insurance, guidebook and a few more work outfits with the money made from my ebay sales, and the netbook situation is sorted thanks to Chrissy! I am getting a bit jittery being without my passport so close to departure, just praying my visa hurries up so I can have it back soon and feel a little more relaxed! Still living off whatever's in the cupboards, not been food shopping in almost a month now, starting to miss fresh food!! Thankfully the odd meals round friends and families houses keeps me going inbetween! I've stopped trying to plan my post-china travels, which is making me nervous, but I have ... read more

Thought I would get a planning blog together to document the entire journey, starting in the grey skied oasis that is Eastleigh! So between working 6 days a week and utilising the other day to attempt to combat the 60+ things on my to do list, I am feeling a little frazzled! Currently doing everything I can to save/make/stretch money, including selling over 50 things on ebay, living off the remnants in my cupboards and freezer, and sadly having a very non extravagant social life! Costs of things I haven't yet considered keep creeping up, and so far I still need to make a plan to cover travel insurance, a final hair appointment and a netbook. Luckily my injections are free, and will be crossed off the mammoth list tomorrow. (Not sure whether to be relieved ... read more
