I arrived on Saturday by train with Aunty Janet. It was a good to have her with me to help balance me at times when I struggled to get used to the weight of my travel pack. It totally throws out my balance and stamina. When changing trains we had to briskly walk up a flight of steps and found I was puffed by the top of the stairs. I now know what the biggest losers feel like when they have successfully lost their weight and the trainers pad them up with 20 or 30kg of sandbags for a last training session. My cousin Robyn met us at the station and walked us back to where she lives. My cousins Robyn and William are lucky enough to live right in the centre of London on the ... read more

For theatre class all we do is take tours and see plays! Yesterday we took a tour of the Globe Theatre and later that night we saw a play called "The Globe Mysteries." The theatre that I visited isn't the original globe that Shakespeare wrote his plays in. It's actual a remake of what they think the globe used to look like. The stage is absolutely breathtaking. To the right and left of the stage are boxes that the elite sit in and there are murals that are painted in the background which is something I've never seen before. Right behind the stage is also a seating area. When Shakespeare had plays the richest people that were going to the theatre would sit in those areas. Although it isn't the best view of the play, they ... read more

I can't prolong my stay any longer. I came without a visa or solid funding. It pulls at the heart-strings to leave my boyfriend. I know I'm too young to succeed in long-distance commitment. For me it's forever a whirlwind romance, escaping before the colors change. ... read more

There’s a place I want to tell you about. And because I’m leaving London, I can share this place with you because it was mine but now it can be yours. Last May, I started to go to Brunswick House Coffee Rooms which were very close to our house in Vauxhall. Over time, I’ve seen these coffee rooms grow from a very tiny, quiet, little risk-taking seed to something flourishing and very popular. When I first went, the big shop counter fridge didn’t work and had a large sheet over it, the baking tins had just arrived and I sat in odd corners of the room with ever changing tables and chairs, chandeliers, lights, cupboards and doors. It became a pattern of mine to go every weekend. I'm still a regular. The coffee rooms are the ... read more

Did 135 miles at the weekend, which is about half of what I'd like to be doing really. Also I have now discovered that one bowl of Crunchy Nut Cornflakes is not sufficient fuel for a 60 mile ride. Live and learn...... read more

Things have changed. Friends are pressing heatfelt cards into my hands and I am thumbing gold stars on to an envelope with your name on it. Flatmates, friends, family. It was my birthday and neither parent managed more than a text message. Nevermind. Twenty three isn't worth writing home about and my lack of birthday greetings make the ones I did get much nicer. The messages: It's been so good to know you, to work with you, to live with you, to be with you. I am feeling quite smug. But this really isnt the point. The point is that things have changed. That plans have changed. We are going away; we are all going away. To the Middle East, yes, and to the United States and to the Netherlands and home to Kent. Wherever. Last ... read more

Given the title and purpose of this blog, this entry should strictly be written by both Lizzie and I whilst pouring over maps and travel guides, sitting on the floor in my bedroom and talking routes and visas. We should be uploading equipment lists and travel plans and writing about how many litres in there are in the rucksacks, which injections we plan to have and the theats posed by the upcoming elections in Lebanon. As it is, it's only me. Lizzie is at work in the Marks and Spencer and I have cast my attention over the vaugue prospect of packing for our Middle Eastern adventure because my other option for today is revising for a law exam tomorrow afternoon - this can be pushed to the back of my head for the morning whilst ... read more

Greetings from London Everyone, Up until this date Stephen and I have been settling into life very well I think. For those who don’t know I will go though what happened since we flew in from Munich on the 9th of July. We flew into Stansted, and let me just say NEVER AGAIN. Iit was so far away and cost so much to get into London and out to Crowthorne where Kirrilee lives. We were lucky enough to have Chris and Kirrilee as a starter base. We relaxed over the weekend, did ALL our washing and tried to get back to normal. As normal as it can be when you living in a strange country. We both started the job hunting process hoping to get something close by, the great news was that LegoLand in Windsor ... read more

So this is technically not a 'real' travellers blog. I am bored and have noticed a couple of strange things recently. 1. I am starting to understand/recognise GBP...well coinage at least. Very strange. I have clearly been in 1 place for too long. 2. I don't know what the sun is like any more and my skin is a sexy shade of pasty. 3. It is September...therefore, the start of Autumn and apparently wearing a coat and water proof mascara in order to avoid panda eyes from the rain is a necessity. 4. Professionally, people need to realise that laughter is not a sin. I would swear, but this is a family show. Consider lots of expletives added here, as well as a suggestion to chill out and shove it also said and read. 5. Slovenly, ... read more
