Slept in this morning. The alarm went off at seven and I snoozed till 8:00. Boy did that feel good. Hives gone. Following a quick breakfast, cereal, fruit, juice and coffee I caught the tube for the Barkerloo Line and got off at Charing Cross Station. It was a short walk to Trafalgar Square and the National Museum. Dingbat left without replenishing the cash supplies so I was lucky I had enough for the Audio Player. If I weren’t old I wouldn’t have. I love those senior discounts. The museum is fairly small compared to the Metropolitan in NYC but has an astounding number of masterworks. It is limited to European art from the 12th to the 20th centuries. I took the docent tour where a group of us were led to a few important paintings ... read more

Firstly we would like to apologise for the late upload of this blog, overall the first day was very eventful! Just after 1 mile into the trip we experienced the first puncture. After a speedy change around next to the "welcome to Sudbury" sign we set off to slowly understand that we must know where we are going before we begin our journey. Several wrong turns and a whole load of map reading we found our way through Epping and into North London. Arrived in Russell Square and checked into our hostel room filled with old people coughing etc. Feeling tired and need to get some sleep as we have to get up early in the morning to escape the London traffic. Best Moment: Dinner at J Sheekey, Worst Moment: The extra short beds that were ... read more

For a long time, I’d always wanted to visit London Transport Museum in Covent Garden. Having read through English Heritage guide book, we found English Heritage Membership Card Holders would get “2 for 1” for the admission. Due to the expansion of the exhibitions, the admission fee has risen over the last few years. The admission fee for the adult is £13.50 as of 2011. There were a lot of people and children waiting at the reception. After Mark had made payment on the basis of English Heritage scheme, we followed the alley flanked by the metro maps of London, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Paris, and got on a lift to the 2nd floor. We were transferred to London in the 19th century. The 2nd floor housed the Omnibus and carriages pulled by horses. Waxworks of ... read more

Alright, so first night got a little bonkers, but hey that will happen your first time in Europe. Over the next few days I got to really experience the greater London area which was extremely fun. One night, the second night I was here actually, we decided to go to a club one last time and this time it was a mixed bag of trying to get Michal to dance with a girl he saw first so naturally gets dibs and a very interesting run in with the one and only, Girraffasouraus. Starting with the girl, she was basically the only attractive girl at the club and the rest were mostly guys, one being around 65, and the others either having a girlfriend or creepin. The 65 year old actually tried dancing with the really ... read more

Since we didn’t get to ice skate in Paris, we thought we try to get it down here in London. Somerset House at Embankment on the Thames is a museum but over Christmas has an ice skating rink in the centre. Unfortunately, only one of us could skate at any one time for obvious reasons, so Jas being the ski instructor that he is, took Mykenzie first. Skiing/skating...it’s really all the same when it comes to teaching so I thought it would be more appropriate for Jas to start, then we would swap tickets and I'd have a go. Each skating session ran for an hour and by the time we found the “box office” to buy the tickets, we were 15 minutes late. We still had to pay for the full hour though so to ... read more

Morning comes early when you get to sleep after midnight. I woke up at 5:30 a.m. and just stayed up. Got my act together and found a way to hook up all my suitcases so I could manage by myself! Met my new friend Cynthia in the lobby and we took the 7:00 a.m. shuttle back to the airport. Had to recheck our bags, go through security and find our gate. That took about two hours. First flight out to London ... Cynthia gets called. She's off, Business Class, and gave me the thumbs up hope that I make it too. Now I'm hovering around the gate desk ... waiting, waiting ... and then I hear those two little words ... Terry Jackson. I take my ticket, look at it, and smile. I too have been ... read more

After last year’s trip, the novelty of a 10-hour, overnight, transoceanic flight had worn off for the kids, but we did the best we could to get some sleep. We arrived in London in the early afternoon on a gorgeous warm day and were picked up by a driver to be taken to a flat in the West End. Because of Gay Pride celebration in Trafalgar Square, the drive was long and circuitous, and our homophobic driver was unnecessarily chatty. The flat is small, but comfortable enough for our short stay in London. We settled in a bit, but resolved to get back outside before we got too sleepy. We got much needed coffee (even Andrew was given a caffeinated frappachino) and walked down through Trafalgar square to take in a bit of the colorful revelry. ... read more

Last weekend in London (5-7/6/10) After a busy eight weeks of work in Stoke-on-Trent we were happy to bid it farewell. We’d done our job by reducing the 24week waiting list for outpatient physio of our trust back to 8 weeks. And had hopefully helped a few people along the way. Saturday We packed our bags minus the work gear (wouldn’t be needing that for some time) and caught the Saturday morning train to London, making the familiar journey to Clapham . We dropped off out gear, enjoyed some lunch in the sun and headed to Covent Garden for our farewell drinks at The Punch and Judy. As the sun shining around it was a perfect location on the balcony with free entertainment courtesy of the street performers. After a fantastic afternoon of cider, sun and catching ... read more

Dear Friends and Family, Ann and I have already arrived back from our Europe Trip, so I am adding our stories and photos post-trip. Ann and I awoke at 8am on May 21 to catch our long flight to Great Britain. We arrived at London Gatwick at 8am on May 22 due to the time difference and the flight. We caught the train to Victoria Station where we left our backpacks (only 8 pounds for 24 hours). We took off to tour the city starting at Buckingham Palace, then crossed through St. James Park to the her Majesty's Parade Grounds. We caught a glimpse on No. 10 Downing St., then over to Parliament Square to see Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. We crossed Westminster Bridge, past the London Eye and started along ... read more

Today, Nellie and Monk went with Floss and Flower to The Ivy Restaurant in the West End. Over the past few years, it's become a bit of a tradition to meet up at The Ivy on the first Sunday after New Year for a long, leisurely lunch to lick our wounds after the rigours of Christmas. This year we resolved to continue the tradition as Irene would have wished. Photography at The Ivy is strictly forbidden but Floss risked surreptitiously taking a photo of Nellie. Sure enough, this provoked a rebuke from the management, to whom we apologised profusely. We weren't too concerned, after all, the only real celeb in the restaurant was Nellie, and she didn't object to us paparazzi taking her picture in any case! Monk's Meanders Monk remembered the New Year celebratory get-together ... read more
