Day 1: 3rd November With my 40th birthday looming, my wife, another couple we know and I decided to book a few days at an apartment to celebrate. We live in London, so getting to our accommodation in Bayswater was easy. Ours friends live over in Watford, and we’d assumed they’d be getting the tube in, but Dave had just bought a new VW Passat from his local dealership and - desperate to trial out his new toy on the open road - insisted on driving. We arrived at our apartment in Bayswater just after lunch and lounged around until Dave and Sarah arrived around 3pm. On the first night, we decided we’d just order some food to the apartment and watch a film with a few drinks, ready for a busy day on the Friday. ... read more

Now just over a week to go. All booked and ready to go. Thought I'd put a list of the key elements of what I have chosen to take with me: 1. Boots - probably the most important piece of kit I went for the Scarpa Mistral GTX (url=http://www.scarpa.co.uk/Products/Product.asp?ProductId=113) Really comfy apart from first few days when the upper cuffs rubbed the inside of my ankles. Didn't take any time to break in and have been wearing them in really wet weather - they have held up so well. They will become a true friend on this trip I feel. 2. Back Pack - had to get one that was as light as possible and managed on my first try-on to purchase the amazing Osprey Talon 44L. Fits llike a glove and is really light. Won't ... read more

I leave London on 4th July and then start off from Edale on the 5th. I have allowed myself a fairly generous 21 / 22 days to complete with only one day off completely. I have on my plan towards the end, broken some of the very long hard sloggers down to a combination of 8 miles and 13 miles to give me some slack. So I have really committed to this trek now. ... read more

Ooooh I really have done it now - only just gone and set up a donation page with Virgin! Yikes I really have to do it now!!! But I have chosen Macmillan as my cause and think if anyone out there has experienced their kindness and support, then they would agree it is a good choice. So here is my giving page please, please do log on and donate. I have set £1000 as my target. Mmmm possibly aiming too high but then again how else can we achieve if we do not have a target. Please help me out and donate small or large - it all helps!!!... read more

Ok - have now told work collegues and they keep asking jow the planning is going. Need to sort out the good cause. Have a soft spot for Macmilllan. Checked their web site and they are well equiped for fundraisers. Possibly thinking of changing to September as time is tight to sort out my plans. Alas as I will be between jobs I may have an offer that would put this plan on hold. However for time being it is still on course and no sign of any offers on the horizon.... read more
