I'm afraid I have returned to England. You may remember I was a very organised old bean at The Learning Trust but because I was on holiday I decided to forego my organised persona and do things on a whim. The result was that on leaving NY I found that every single hostel in Boston and Philadelphia was booked up with no vacancies. I could of course have moved onto another hotel but as hotels are around $1200 a week compared to $200 a week for a hostel it would mean blowing all my money in the first few weeks of my travels. Having difficulty finding somewhere to go I decided to come home and have a rethink. My travels aren't over, I just need to organise them better so I don't get stranded with nowhere ... read more

As we were settling into to our plush Air Asia X seats eagerly awaiting our take-off the captain came over the PA with all the usual pre-flight info: names of crew, expected altitude, weather and wind (strong head-wind) and flight time dooor to door: 14 hrs. What, 14 hrs? For some reason Meg and I had thought the flight would be in the range of 6-8hrs; perhaps because neither of us bothered to look at a map or calculate the time difference of Kuala Lampur and London (8 hrs) plus the ETD (10 AM) and ETA (4PM). Oops! WHO KNOWS???????????????? If someone told me what is gonna happen to me in the next few months about a year ago I fink i would have laughed in there face. Now 2 hours before I leave my house for potentially a very long time Im not laughin no more. But at this moment im still not scared infact im still sittin in my boxers with no stains in.
